At first put us in a horrible room dirty ask them if could swop and wow the room what they put us in was amazing
Really freindly staff ..car parking is a bit off a nightmare
Haveing lots work done at moment so no lifts and a bit dusty
Bathroom was virtually spotless. Hotel being renovated so the room probably used ony a few times prior to us. Ignore the workmen, and you will have a wonderful stay in this location, overlooking the Abbey. Few minutes from the centre but up hill. Will go back when renovation is complete, and lift working, and full air conditioning in place.
Nice old style friendly hotel in a great location and full of character. The hotel was undergoing refurbishment while we were there but it had no impact on our stay. Very pleasant room. Breakfast was good but lacked fried eggs. Parking via another company but no issues. Easy check in and out. We will stay there again.

Extensive renovation work in progress (end April 2025) No lift but room and breakfast fine.
On arrival at this hotel we were met by a huge building project within the reception area with drills, sanders, many building personnel carrying various pieces of their equipment. I was not made aware of this at the time of booking.
I managed to voice my shock to the manager who assured me that the bedrooms/restaurant would not be affected by the drilling noise/dust/and general mayhem. We were offered a choice of rooms and because we had looked forward to this trip the thought of returning home without checking in and going through the process of unpacking, we decided to stay.
We made the best of this two night stay but under no circumstances whatsoever would we be making a return booking. I felt grieved that his extensive building work and the accompanying noise and chaos was not mentioned at the point of check in. The lifts were not working and my heart went out to the many elderly disabled guests who
struggles up the many stairs using zimmer frames etc.
This hotel should have closed its doors until the refurbishment was complete because by allowing guests to book and not mentioned the chaos they will have lost the opportunity of returning guests.
I want to add that despite the above shambles, all of the staff showed respect and professionalism throughout our stay. They were working in a very stressful environment yet managed to remain polite until we checked out.
It is a building site so what can you expect - but I was not informed before I booked that this was the case. Luckily I am fit enough to climb 70 plus steps to my 3rd level room as there is no lift etc etc
There were renovations taking place. This restricted certain amenities and should have been made clear in the hotel booking information and reflected within the pricing.

Nice old hotel. Will be good when the renovations, including a new lift, are complete.
Sorry we arrived late and had to leave early as we missed the sights.
Do recommend - the staff were lovely.
Lovely old hotel currently being renovated. The new lift will be wonderful as there are a lot of stairs. Great location. Marvellous staff. Very comfortable rooms with upgraded bathrooms.
Recommend for a visit.

The property is very rundown, even though they say they are upgrading it it is been done to a very low standard on our first room. The door lock did not work the key and the latch were not lined up and you got a Bodge it and scarper. Maintenance man who was pretty clueless and was more interested in an around talking and drinking coffee then doing a job properly it’s just putting a stick in Plaster over it.
Our stay was very short just one night we couldn’t get in until 3 clock receptionist could have been more friendly she was in middle of an argument with 2 men about car park didn’t look good on our arrival but hotel room was very nice
Really enjoyed our stay. All the staff were lovely. They were having refurbishments done to the rooms. We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms and were very impressed with our stay. Would definitely stay here again. The hotel had great views and was a short walk away from the shops.
This is an older hotel, but well maintained. My room was small, but perfectly good for one person. It might be a bit tight for two people, but probably OK. Bathroom had been remodelled and was modern and well equipped. The bed was very comfortable. They are remodelling the bar currently, but the small bar was very nice and opened out onto a nice veranda overlooking the harbour and with views of the Whitby Abbey on the other side. The dining room is large and very lovely. Good breakfast included with my booking. The location is fantastic, with waterfront location and terrific views. Definitely would stay here again.

Tale of 2 halves
A tale of 2 halfs really. Staff were all lovely, especislly the gorgeous girl who was running the breakfast room. Looked after my friend and i with a sea view both days and breakfast was delicious. Only downside was the room which is is dire need of an update. However, thd beds were vety comfy and we had a lovely sea view. I would return once the renovations are complete.
The location is fabulous and the staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful

Handy for a visit to Whitby - very central and great views. Some of the rooms are a bit tired looking. Our bathroom has a full length window which overlooked thesin street and basically had a film on the window to make it opaque - the blind wasn't big enough to fit the whole window. So you feel a bit exposed when you're in there with the light on.
The fire alarm also went off in the middle of the night during our stay. Most guests were stood outside the hotel for quite some time. A handful of guests and staff members were inside. The fire brigade were called out and 30 minutes later the people stood inside the hotel foyer started to go back to their rooms. There was no communication with any of the guests outside - no staff member came out to speak to the guests or to check everyone was ok. No one appeared to be in control of the situation and guests who had followed the hotels own evacuation procedure were just left outside in the cold. Noone took a register to ensure all guests were present. I wouldn't like to have been staying there had there been a real file - the hotel procedures didn't appear to be very robust.
