The house built in 1903 is on the edge of a pretty hamlet and 2 kms from shops,with a big garden and lovely far reaching views. At the foot of the grand Colombier (Tour de France), 12 miles from the lac du Bourget, an hour from Geneva and Lyon;
Our second gîte is ideally situated for fans of sport ( road cycling, VTT, water-sports, walking, Fly fishing, horse riding...),nature and Wine tasting (There are grape vines at the bottom of the garden and wine producer 100 m away and about 10 others within a 6 miles radius).
Ideal for families with children of all ages and pet friendly, the gite is equipped with swings, table tennis, American billard table, private south facing swimming pool (10 X 5 meters), jacuzzi 7 places a "petanque" set balls and games.
The "Old school house" is a relaxing authentic French hide away in a beautiful undiscovered part of France.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, which features a private pool. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a coffee/tea maker and a washing machine.

Fantastic property with lovely pool and amazing views! We hadn't visited this part of France before, but we absolutely loved it and will definitely be back. The scenery was stunning...mountains, lakes. The property itself was lovely, super clean, and with everything you could need. Our teenager absolutely loved the hot tub and the pool table. Claude's wine was fabulous, so I'd definitely recommend a tasting session!Thank you to Sarah and Claude who were super hosts and gave us so many ideas of things to do. But really we could have just stayed by the pool all week looking at the view!!!

Sadly substandard

Positives: Location is beautiful. We enjoyed the pool. We appreciated that the owners replaced a broken dryer at short notice. We were warmly welcomed with complimentary Prosecco. Negatives: The house was very dirty. If we could upload our photos, you would see: -Mouldy shower which flooded as not properly fitted (not other guests putting soap down it as the owner stated) -Mouldy and stained outdoor cushions for outdoor -Dirty kitchen items with food crusted on them and a filthy coffee maker. We had to wash everything before use. -All kitchen surfaces were sticky and the oven unusable (an acrid smell filled the kitchen when on) -Dust, flies and cobwebs in most rooms -Stained bath (could not bathe our child) As we found more issues, we felt we had to raise them with the owner. They were so numerous that they could not be rectified during our stay and we had to leave. The owner, in recognising the problems, offered to refund us for the night we could not stay. This was two months ago and despite VRBO contacting the owner many times this has not been refunded. We can’t recommend this property without significant changes and an improvement in the owner’s confrontational communication. Though originally very helpful and agreeable, when we met with them in person, they were rude and stated that we should just have dealt with the issues, implying that we were looking for money. It is clear from the above, and from the fact that VRBO has compensated us, that this is not true.

Superb in Every Way

This Gite is spacious and well fitted out, in a beautiful, peaceful setting within easy train or car distance of Lyon, Geneva and regional towns that are well worth visiting - Chamonix and Annesee for example. Local village meets all shopping needs. Our hosts, Sarah and Claude were exceptionally welcoming and helpful. They and the Gite and location made it a 5 week trip to remember.

Peaceful Summer Retreat

Such a lovely place to stay, absolutely amazing views and so close to Col du Grand Colombier. A 10 min drive to Culoz where you can get a cheap 1hr train journey to Geneva, or slightly longer to Lyon. Would recommend to anyone and also would stay again without hesitation! Just fix the oven!! Dan.

The real France

This area is just stunning and the hosts are a fabulous and responsive source for all enquiries. The house feels like a true experience of rural France and the pool area is the cherry on top - wouldnt hesitate to return.

Superb location for bike, family or any other holiday

A perfect "gite" for a any sort of holiday, well located, beautifull swimmingpool, flexible host(s), supermarket en 5* pizza restaurant nearby, 5 min from the grand de colombier, col and mont du chat and many nice hills within traveling distance. It does not really matter if you would like to relax and stay around this "gite" with friend or family, will cycle, or do both you can do for days, weeks or ...

Fantastic once again

This was our second time staying at Sarah & Claude’s gites, the property was fantastic, everything that we could have wished for. The swimming pool is just lovely, with views of the mountains and right next to the local vineyard, we spent so many hours in and around the pool, we loved it so much we booked for next year. The Gite has a pool table, table tennis, trampoline and climbing frame so helped keep the kids entertained when not in the pool. There are many local lakes which quite and peaceful, if you into cycling you have so many miles of great roads to explore and can climb the Grand Colombier from 4 different routes, on a clear day the view from the Grand Colombier is spectacular, watching sunset with a 360 degree view is amazing, with Mont Blanc in the distance. There are so many things to keep you entertained whilst you stay, from local walks, parcore to canyoning depending how energetic you feel. Sarah & Claude are tremendous hosts and make sure that you have a lovely break. A trip to the local vineyard to sample the wines is well worth it, and allows you to stock up for your stay. As a family we totally recommend this area and the Gite.

Beautiful location, super house, private pool.

A super house with loads of space and games for young families inside the house and outside. We had a great welcome from Sarah and some lovely local produce in the kitchen for our arrival. There were a few beetle type insects in the bedroom the first night, but once we removed them no others appeared. The pool was brilliant, about 20 degrees (early October!) and not overlooked ... only by the Grand Columbier! Ideal and beautiful location for any cyclist wanting to ride one of the Tours regular routes. The views from the top were just magical ... breathtaking ... out of this world. The garden is not secure, it's open to a neighbours vegetable patch and another neighbours small vineyard. The advert 'facilities' lists not only things at the house eg swimming pool, but also things you can do in the area eg sauna, massage, kayak etc. The figs from the tree in the garden were ripe delicious. A quiet walk (1.5 miles) down a quiet track, steep in part, gets you into the village of Artemare with a boulangerie, Carrefour Contact, butcher and restaurants (we can recommend Le Seran for a lovely meal). Sarah and Claude were perfect and responded promptly to our enquiries. Without question, we would stay there again.

Amazing location, stunning views and lovely hosts!

Where do I start!... The views...wow! Nestled in a small sleepy village at the base of Le Grand Columbier and surrounded by vineyards with clear views of the mountains and stunning sunrises, what more could we ask for?! We were a family of three adults and four children ranging from 5yrs - 15yrs. They were never bored! The pool is fantastic, clean and refreshing after a day lazing in the sun on the comfy loungers - lots of fun had by all. The pool table and ping-pong were great hits with the kids and adults alike too. Beautiful villages to explore nearby, especially Chanaz. An early morning swim in the Lac de Virieu was a little piece of heaven, even more so as we had the whole lake to ourselves! It's definitely worth the drive up Le Grand Columbier for the spectacular views of the Alps and the Rhone Valley. A day trip to Geneva is only an hour away on the train - the old town is worth a visit. Sarah and Claude are genuinely lovely hosts and couldn't be more helpful, even waiting for us to arrive at a ridiculous hour - I think it was after 1am! They arranged to come with us for a wine tasting evening at the neighbours, Claude Collomb, so they could translate for us. The wine is very nice, a little more special knowing it's made from the grapes surrounding the gite! There is so much more I could write about this wonderful little corner of rural France but you'll just have to visit to see it for yourselves! Thanks Sarah & Claude, hopefully we will be back to visit again soon! Lisa, Raymond & family :)

Wonderful stay at gite de l’ecole. Nothing like school!

Breathtaking surroundings of vines, mountains and trees around this lovely gite with its elegant proportions. Comfortable beds, tasteful furniture and artwork and plenty of hot water to shower in after lounging around the pool. Great to have a pool which has good depth and easy access steps for both children (aged 10 and 11) and adults to enjoy. Loved the swifts or swallows sweeping down to take a drink! Kitchen is a good size, although we ate al fresco most of the time. Fantastic to eat some of the garden veg and herbs, whilst sipping the wine (produced by Claude Collomb) grown from grapes surrounding the gite. Pool table provided lots of entertainment, with the odd game of table tennis. Sarah and Claude are charming hosts who kindly booked a superb table for us at a lovely restaurant. All round excellent accommodation and a wonderful time had in this beautiful place.

Awesome home and hosts!

From the moment we arrived, greeted by Sarah, fresh flowers, sunny rooms, a lovely pool with vineyard vistas, a well-equipped kitchen, and charming bedrooms, we were in heaven!! We enjoyed a magical week with our boys and their wives, thanks to Sarah and Claude, who recommended favorite restaurants and places to see/things to do, all of which were wonderful. We especially loved The Belvedere restaurant overlooking Lac Bourget, wine tasting with the neighbor vintner Claude Collomb, and exploring the Grand Columbiere with unbelievable views of Mont Blanc. We hope to return some day!

Beautiful house with fantastic views

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers and we had a fabulous holiday in this house. The house itself is beautifully decorated, full of character and has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable! Outside, there is the large pool with stunning views, table tennis, a trampoline and children’s toys. Inside, we enjoyed the TVs in the bedrooms and billiards. We felt we didn’t need to leave the house very often! If you do venture out, the area itself is fabulous. It is very quiet (although a great supermarket is only 5 minutes drive away) and it is a really unspoilt area of rural France. There are plenty of walks that can be taken from the house. It is also a good place for cycling. Further afield, we would recommend Annecy, Lac du Bourget, and the view from the Grand Colombier. Sarah and Claude are the perfect hosts. They are very knowledgeable about the area, and go out of their way to make sure you are having a good time. If you are looking for the perfect French rural idyll, then this is for you!

5* house in peaceful location

We have just spent 2 weeks in this amazing house, 2 families with children from 3 to 15 years. Lovely rural location with amazing views but with plenty of activities within a short drive away. We all loved the pool, the space and of course the wine! Will hopefully return one day. A big thank you to the owners for allowing us to stay and were always on hand to offer advice when required. Definitely worth a stay!

Really well equipped large house with beautiful views

We were two families (4 children under 4!) staying for a week in this beautiful large house. It had everything we could want, the kids loved the pool and trampoline and we loved relaxing looking at the amazing views from every part of the garden. The hosts were brilliant, they only live a mile away and were great with reccomendations of places to visit. They are really passionate about the local area, which really is stunning. This was our first visit to this part of France and we will definitely be back and would return to this lovely house very happily.

Wonderful property in a beautiful area

We can't say enough good things about our time at this house. The house was beautiful and the yard with a trampoline, basketball net and pool were perfect for the kids. It likely helped that we enjoyed sunny and unseasonably warm weather, but we did feel like we were in paradise for our entire time. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well supplied and the view was calming and restoring. The pool was cold, but seeing as we visited in April, we didn't expect to even be able to use the pool and we enjoyed our refreshing plunges. If you are looking to discover a beautiful, lesser known corner of France either for a relaxing getaway or for a more active holiday (there was a lot of lovely hiking quite nearby) - you would not go wrong staying at this house. Thanks again to Sarah for being an excellent host - we highly recommend your place.

Mysigt och lyxigt

Vi trivdes från första stund i huset som har en härlig atmosfär och känns hemvant från första stund extra plus att hundar är tillåtna , den privata poolen höjer ytterligare nivån på trivseln. Läget är det bästa tänkbara mitt i naturen men ändå nära till stadsliv och sevärdheter . Vandringslederna omväxlande och väl utmärkta möjlighet tiil vinturism bra. Vi rekommenderar gärna till alla som vill ha ultimat avkoppling och som vill upptäcka nya platser att stanna här gärna 2 veckor för att hinna med allt.Fördel om man kommer med egen bil annars är hyrbil att rekommendera

Wir waren zum Familienurlaub dort. Der Garten ist wunderschön und komplett eingezäunt. Für Kinder und Hunde perfekt geeignet. Wunderschöne Aussicht auf die Berge. Die Vermieterin war immer erreichbar und sehr freundlich! Wirklich sehr zu empfehlen.

Gîte fantastique!

Moments hors du temps loin de l'agitation de la ville. Le gîte de l'école est fantastique tant par sa situation que par son équipement. Les différentes vues sont un enchantement du matin au soir. La région offre beaucoup de possibilités de randonnées à pied ou à vélo. La piscine est un plus pour se rafraichir et se poser. Merci à Sarah et Claude pour leur accueil et disponibilité. Vivement l'été prochain pour les vacances!
