Comfortable place to stay in Valdez

Hotel was nice and the rooms are comfortable. The front desk staff is not at the top of their game so have some patients with them. You may have to tell them the same thing multiple times before they finally get it.

During our stay, there were some warm days and there was no air conditioning in the motel rooms, only a very small fam. It was rather uncomfortable trying to sleep because of the very warm rooms. Even the main lobby rooms and breakfast area were very uncomfortably warm because of the lack of air conditioning. Everything else about the motel and grounds were very nice, safe and clean. We enjoyed our stay.

The showers are cold and there is no air conditioning. Even though it was in the 60's all week, the rooms get hot with no way to cool them off. The line for the boat glacier tours line up next to the hotel so don't expect to sleep in. The complimentary breakfast was good.

Not the "best" Best Western

Rooms were hot and there was no way to cool them down. We left windows open and an in room fan on but still was uncomfortable in room. Bathroom needs an upgrade as well, toilet was very low. Couldn't keep a constant temperature on the shower, one second hot then it would go cold then scalding hot and back to cold. 5 of us went to the restaurant for dinner and were told we should go into town. There was an 8 place table open but the hosted said, "I'm not going to seat you there." We left our phone number for a call back and an hour later hadn't received one so we ate at another establishment in town.

This property appeared to be an artifact of the 1970s and seriously in need of renovation and maintenance. The bathroom was disgusting. The bathroom door was splintered, paint peeled off in very large portions, and it was greasy. I doubt if it had been cleaned in many months. The hallway outside our room looked like it had not been vacuumed in many days, maybe weeks. The screen in the window was torn so we could not open the widow for ventilation and the place has no air conditioning. This hotel is located immediately next to an industrial yard that is very noisy and dusty. There were 6 tour buses parked close to our room that were idling and pumping out diesel fumes for prolonged periods. We could not wait to get out of the place.

The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Valdez. Easy walk to enjoy the waterfront, museums, hiking paths and restaurants. Due to its location near the commercial boats, the hallway has an acrid odor. It didn't seem to affect the room.

The staff makes this place a winner!

We stayed for 3 nights. The staff was very accommodating. Our main complaint was that it was very hot in the room and there was no air conditioning. The front desk person came down and there was a fan provided in the closet, which helped a lot. We also had trouble with the lock on the door not working. It was looked at, but we were told it just acts up sometimes, but it was frustrating to not be able to get in our room. Breakfast was so-so, but again, the staff were wonderful and always asked if there was anything else they could do for us.
