Unfortunately, my check in experience was not a good one and that set the tone for my entire weekend.
When I arrived the attendant insisted that I use my credit card to pay my deposit. I told him I wanted to use my Debit instead. I have checked into countless hotels before...this is something I have been doing regularly for years (decades) and I know that everywhere I go they have allowed me to choose my method of payment as long as I pay the deposit, credit or debit, it shouldn't matter....payment is payment.
When I insisted to pay using Debit....visa debit to be exact, the attendant appeared to get angry and demanded I go get $200 cash from the machine that was in the lobby. Of course there was a $4.00 service charge for that. I handed him the cash and he aggressively counted it, almost as if he didn't believe it was all there. The treatment from him was as if I was trying to get in for free or ripping them off or begging for something. I was not treated as a welcomed guest. Once he counted the money he allowed me to then pay for the balance with my debit card. Again, with an attitude that made me feel like I was doing something wrong. He dropped the card keys on the counter...told me my room number and huffed off to tend to another customer. I felt embarrassed. No welcome, no sense of hospitality towards me, no explanation of the amenities.....nothing! I went back and sat in my van trying to process what just happened. I will never go back there again!!
