I enjoyed that it was close to the water and a fun section of town. The building is older. It shows signs of wear in the rooms but they were clean and spacious. Parking was a bit tricky but they do have security in the lot.The staff was lovely.

Thank goodness for your staff as that is the only thing this hotel has that is good. The "elevator" is a joke! The staircase is very narrow and steep! Not a good hotel for people with disabilities!!

Meh

For the price, the hotel was very run down. I tend to stay in older hotels, and expect some “wear”, but this was pretty rough. The bathroom wall had been kicked in, the wall heater was falling off, the window screen was torn and the window didn’t really shut. It got the job done, but I was disappointed in the stay. If given then chance again I’d stay across the street.

The hotel is extremely old, and unfortunately, everything inside reflects that age. The power supply was unreliable—charging two phones while using the microwave caused multiple power outages during our stay. We experienced this twice at night, which was very inconvenient. The in-room telephone didn’t work, so we couldn’t contact the front desk and had to go down in person for any assistance. To make matters worse, there was a thunderstorm just before we checked out, which led to a power outage across the hotel. There was no backup generator, and no staff member came to explain the situation. The lack of communication left many guests frustrated and confused. While the staff were friendly, the overall experience was far from acceptable. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Uncomfortable with homeless people hanging around property. Bathrooms outdated with black mold between tiles and unclean tub but main bedroom acceptable. Air conditioning difficult to set and control

Chose this hotel for the location and it's history. Big mistake. I booked a junior sweet. The part of the sweet without a bed had no working lamps, probably to hide the disgusting stains on the couch and carpet. The room was also haphazardly thrown together with random chairs. The front desk staff were great. Security looks at everyone as suspicious, so no discrimination there. The historic hotel has seen better days, hopefully it will see better days in the future. Would not stay here again.

We were in town for a wedding but only one might at this hotel as it was close to the venue. Our room was huge, with a nice second bedroom for the kids. Everything was quite dated, though it was clear they’d made some attempts to update. The young woman who checked us in was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the next morning we woke up to no power in our room — in fact, the whole building was out. That meant no elevator from the 5th floor, cold showers, and very little lighting. We tried showering with the door open for light, but the water was freezing. When we took the stairs, they were extremely slippery and poorly lit, so we used our phone flashlights and held the kids’ hands the entire way down the narrow, dated staircase. When we reached the front desk to ask what was going on, they said the power was out in the area — fair enough, things happen. But we also asked if our breakfast coupons could be used later in the day or the next morning. This time, the woman at the desk was curt and unhelpful, simply telling us it wasn’t her problem and that if we were checking out, that was all we’d get. The lack of customer service in that moment really soured what could have been a decent stay.

For safety reasons, I down voted the property condition. There were no security lights in the stairwell and they are extremely steep and narrow. The power outage was unexpected, but the security lights not coming on after the power went out is unacceptable. The last set of steps had security lights. The elevator was also dysfunctional the evening before.

Skip this hotel. Choose safety/cleanliness.

Room carpeting was filthy, hallway reeked like pot. Homeless, drug users outside in parking lot and inside hotel, felt very unsafe. Drug paraphernalia in parking lot and nearby sky way. Pool area in poor repair, mystery chunks floating in pool. Main elevator broken. Had to use staff? spare elevator which barely fit a luggage cart let alone extra people. Front desk person rude when attempting to check in. Would not recommend.

Old in every way

Understandingly its in the name of the hotel. The elevator did not work, created delay, the cleanliness of the shower was sub par, i wouldn’t take a shower without my sandals. But the security was on point with the exception of one sleeping in his car in the parking lot of the hotel. I get that their security might work double shifts but this should be looked at.

The food was pretty good in the dining room. Great breakfast included. The bed was tiny, but that was all that was available. It was ok. The hotel is very old and beautiful in its time. It could do with a reno- carpets, walls, furniture in the dining room looks almost original (1914). Staff were friendly. There is only 1 elevator for this very big hotel and small at that. It only fits a luggage rack with 2 people. Staff is using it too, so we had to wait 10 minutes to get an elevator to take us down to check out with all our luggage. The view from our room was nice and there is a nice walk along Lake Superior right across from the hotel.
