Holiday In Tangier

Picture whitewashed beach houses, colourful markets and golden sand. Wait—you can do better than daydreaming! Trade your old haunts for an ancient civilisation and modern luxury when you go on holiday in Tangier, Morocco.

Laze on the beach, haggle with local artisans and dig into savoury Moroccan cuisine by the handful. Located on the North African Coast on the Strait of Gibraltar, so when you’re sunbathing you can wave “hola” to Spain! Ready for Moroccan ‘n’ rollin’? (See what we did there?) Book one lastminute.com.au’s sweet package deals to Tangier and get to the airport!

Things to Do in Tangier

Start your Tangier holiday at the top! Explore the Kasbah, a royal hideaway on the north side of the city’s historic Medina District. While you’re there, tour Kasbah Museum and Dar el-Makhzem Palace, which generations of sultans have called home. These days, the royal sleeping chambers house the Museum of Moroccan Arts. If it’s good enough for sultans, it’s good enough for us!

You know what else is fit for royals? The views from Cap Spartel. Hop into one of our terrific Tangier car hire options and take a drive out to the hilly nature reserve on the west side of the city. From this vantage point, you can make friends with donkeys and look out over the Atlantic Ocean while sipping tea in a cosy café. Look to the south and you’ll see a string of beaches running toward the airport. Well, that’s convenient. Start with a soak at quiet Plage Achakkar, then wander south to Hercules’ Cave—hey, even demigods need some “me time”. When you’re done spelunking heroically, keep driving south to Plage Sidi Kacem, a swanky stretch of sand and the perfect place to watch the sunset.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

When you want to take home some of the intricate textiles and tile work famous to Tangier, check out the Grand Socco—aka Big Souk or Market—near the Kasbah. The market is strewn with gorgeous treasures, from ceramics to silk scarves. It’s a good thing you’re about to save with cheap Tangier packages, because you’re gonna fill the boot with booty.

Get the inside scoop on street eats and a downright lovely coffee break at Petit Socco—French for “little souk”. This open air collection of vendors and cafes provides a lovely break in the middle of the Medina. Meals of delicious salads and couscous are served family-style with tagine—savoury stews prepared in conical clay pots. So take some friends, make some friends, or eat A LOT.

If the food coma has you down, don’t worry. Tangier nightlife is easygoing. You’ll probably end up chatting with locals over hookah and sweets long into the night. But if you must hit the club, look to the beach scene for bars and live music venues remember that many of these venues may be closed during Ramadan celebrations—but gosh, it’s beautiful.

"Walkable distance from the port but not very assessable by road as it is in the old town section. The property has no lifts so climbing up and down with bags can be an issue. The market place is walking distance but you could be harassed by the locals who want you to pay them to give you directions. ..."
