A far cry from “a home away from home”
I booked this unit as a desperate ‘plan C’ after multiple failed reservations for other properties, so the bar was relatively low, but this ended up being far worse than we expected. A mop in a bucket greeted us at the entry to the unit. A futon sofa, that was too small for all 4 of us to sit on, was the only piece of furniture, so cooking & eating there was out of the question. The listing description that boasts a private yard was really just a dusty, gravelly expanse. The two bedrooms were each equipped with a bed and a single nightstand. The bathroom contained the only mirror, which we had to use in turns to get ready. We intended on washing our dishes, but alas, were not provided a sponge. Despite the dearth of normal amenities, there was a great deal of noise that travelled through the house above us. Even at 11 pm, the residents upstairs were loud: running up and down the halls, dragging furniture, and vacuuming. Sunday, we spent the day away from the rental, and returned that evening to a party on the property with close to 50 vehicles and very limited parking. Though the host warned us about the party ahead of time, we had no idea how long it would go for or that we’d feel like an inconvenience for parking on the property. If a bit more effort was put into the unit, like some bedside lamps, washcloths that didn’t feel like dishrags, a full-length mirror, table & chairs, patched-up the holes in the wall, and some rugs to muffle sounds, it might feel a bit more homey.
