Location beautiful.
Noise and thin curtains, woke up at 5am and wedding parties till 2am in the mornings, had a three day stay and not a goodnight sleep on any of them. Spoke to staff with no outcomes, could have moved us , I have stayed here on a few occasions and need to be thought of better. No hair dryer , iron or fridge. It was expensive and the hotel needs an updating make over, breakfast was out dated and requires a new menu to cater for all.
Friendly and efficient staff. Views of the mouth of the Tyne are amazing. Easy parking
Despite the fact there was a wedding going on during our stay our room remained very quiet throughout our stay.(We suspect our room had been chosen by the staff well away from the celebrations)
Restaurant staff managed service very well coping with a large bus tour and individuals

After staying at the Little Haven for the last 20 years(with 4 generations of family) I’m saddened to be writing this review. The Hotel has seriously declined & is in need of a total renovation. The new owner (in my opinion) is relying on its location to bring in business. Our ground floor room had restrictor/safety locks snapped off ( so we couldn't leave a window open) not good in hot weather. Furniture in rooms is the same as 20 years ago - warped bubbling wood, window blind slats missing(again not good on the ground floor with people walking by). The restaurant situation was shocking. At breakfast, we found that food wasnt replenished allowing for all guests to be offered a variety of food. One morning there was no fruit or bread left. Reception staff seemed to have lost their smart dress code(giving the hotel an unprofessional look)! On our most recent visit we had a total of 7 rooms booked & moving forward we have all decided to stay elsewhere on our next visit to sunny south shields.

It was a very hot weekend. I phoned the hotel before we left home and requested a fan for the room. I asked 3 times on the first night but fan never arrived. The carpet to the left side of the bed was soaked and the room smelled of cleaning fluids. The hotel appeared to be short staffed and breakfast took a long time as staff disappeared from the counter frequently. Having said that the staff were friendly and when I mentioned about the lack of a fan and the wet carpet I found a bottle of wine with compliments in my room. Location was lovely. It wouldn’t stop me staying there again.
I stay in hotels a lot and like to think I’m pretty fair and unfussy. This is the 2nd time I’ve stayed here and I was hoping it would be better than the first time, especially as the cost was so much more.
Unfortunately it was not! The staff were perfectly reasonable and the view was lovely, even for the ground floor. That are literally the only positive points.
The room was very tired, no hairdryer, and empty box of tissues, the furniture is very dated and tired. The sprung bed was like something you would expect in a dorm and the bathroom, with perhaps the cheapest excuse for a shower curtain I have ever seen, is very dated.
Everywhere was clean which is the only reason I didn’t complain.
I did have breakfast, unfortunately, and it followed suit in being poor. Again, I’m not fussy but this is the only time I remember leaving a paid for breakfast and went to McDonald’s instead!
This may read a little harsh but was genuinely a regrettable stay and I would have been disappointed if the room cost £50 let alone over £120! I would not recommend this hotel and won’t be staying again.
Room was very clean tidy and well supplied, staff were all excellent, all meals were hot and tasty and at a reasonable cost.
Only down side was the noise from drunken smokers just outside our room window as we were trying to sleep would recommend you avoid room 241 for this reason, otherwise it was an excellent experience.

Short break away
As a couple we stay here 2-3 times during the year. This is mainly due to its exceptional location.
Our hotel room was spacious and clean. The bath towels were white and fresh smelling. Also the shower curtain was stain free and toiletries are provided.
However, the shared public areas, in particular the lounge with the sofas were at times dirty and scruffy. There doesn't appear to be enough staff to clear tables and give surfaces a clean. We are aware that dogs are allowed in this area and we could really smell 'the wet doggy smell'
Also some people let their dogs up onto the sofas so they have dog hairs on them. Food on the carpet was not hoovered up over the 2 days of our stay.
Breakfast is okay but nothing special. It feels a bit like a canteen and it can be disorganised. For example they ran out of juice, milk, yoghurts, fruit and croissants. As staff were already stressed we didn't want to ask for items to be put out. Hotel guests shouldn't have to keep asking for breakfast items to be replenished.
On a brighter note the coffee and cream scones are lovely and are not overly expensive. Most of the staff try to be helpful and friendly although they do seem to have responsibilities in different areas of the hotel. As a result they can appear to be a bit stretched and then apologise a lot for waiting times.
A few tweaks and this could be such a fantastic hotel.
