The hotel was nice and quiet. We stayed in a junior suite. The only thermostat was in the living room beside the fireplace and the gas fireplace was the source of heat for rooms; this meant the bathrooms and bedroom were quite chilly. The bedroom was so cold that our infant had to sleep in his snow suit. Our five year old managed okay because he was old enough to safely use blankets. I’d return with the kids when older, but not with a baby again.

The room was super clean, quaint, had lots of character and was comfortable. There was a bit of a challenge turning the TV onto cable, but patience and a couple of calls to the front desk as the hotel that managed this one sorted things out. Would stay here again.

I tried to upgrade to a suite for 3 of our 4 nights. Neither the hotel nor Expedia could make that happen. That was a frustration. The online check-in was cumbersome. The location was very good as was the parking.

I opted for "virtual check-in" and was told I'd receive codes to open the front door and room door. Even after phoning the night before, no codes arrived. The front door WAS open when we arrived but no staff. Another couple said they'd been waiting 20 minutes. After waiting more than 20 minutes I snagged a chambermaid for assistance and she took us to our room. The next morning three other couples said they had the same experience of waiting a long time before someone appeared to offer help. If it wasn't for Terri (the chambermaid) I don't know what we would have done. The check-in experience definitely needs big improvement (and Terri deserves a big raise... she appears to be the only person on site).

We had a "no contact" check-in, which was new for us but went smoothly, with the key codes for the hotel entrance and our room emailed to us a couple of hours before check-in. The hotel was clean and neat; it's an older building with character. Traffic on Erie St. can be noisy at night, but the hotel provides earplugs. The continental breakfast buffet was simple but satisfactory. Lots of restaurants nearby and just short walks to Stratford Festival venues.

The room was cute and delightful and incredibly clean. The extras (complimentary water and pop in the mini fridge, candy and trail mix in the lobby, etc) were all wonderful touches, as was that the room actually had a kettle for my morning tea! Add little things like the lovely balloons, cookies, and birthday note for my wife; the soft music playing in the room when we arrived, and it was just a great experience. We will 100% be staying here again!

Everything was clean and tidy and convenient. The only thing that needs attention is the A/C unit. Time for an upgrade to a Mini Split heater/air conditioning unit. This way the window is closed to keep the noise at a minimum from the street and the unit can quietly run above the fireplace. It heats and cools and keeps the room temp constant and is a lot more energy efficient. The old A/C is very loud and also allows the noise from outside into the room. The room has big swings in temperature so that was difficult to manage. Get that remedied and you've got a nice comfortable room!

This hotel is located ideally close to the Avon theater and all kinds of shops and restaurants. The drawbacks would be that we were on the second floor and could only take stairs. At our age, that was a little more challenging. Well, we may be on the older side of life. We do know how to operate television’s iPhone and various other pieces of technology. However, we did need assistance in how to operate the air conditioner as the remote was not working and we couldn’t see on the device where we had to operate it. And then we needed assistance with how to operate the television as it is not set up by default to broadcast any channels. You have to take it off its default setting and set it to Rogers. These sorts of things are best left with instructions if they are not intuitive.The complementary breakfast was minimal. Never received the code to get in so we were lucky a staff member arrived and she let us in. She also helped us up the stairs with our luggage. In leaving, we weren’t that fortunate. The room was small. One of those situations where I found myself digging clothes out from underneath other clothes because there really was no place to put anything. Overall, it wasn’t terrible by any means however if you’re used to a little more room, an elevator and a complementary breakfast that includes hot beverages, you might consider staying somewhere else.
