We had high expectations for Margaritaville South Padre Island after seeing it listed as one of the best hotels in the area, but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing.
Our initial room, suite 1105, was unacceptable. The carpets leading to the room were filthy, and inside we were met with a musty odor and unclean floors. We discovered small ants on the floor, which quickly turned into a full infestation. By evening, there were ants in our bed, and we also had to kill a roach in the bathroom. The situation reached a breaking point when we had to wake up our three kids, including our 6-year-old, at 10:30 PM to move rooms. Maintenance confirmed the infestation, sprayed chemicals, and strongly advised us to relocate. To make matters worse, there was mold in the shower, further adding to the lack of cleanliness.
We were moved to room 1205, which was a step up—cleaner, fresher smelling, and without ants—but we still found mold in the main shower. Abby at the front desk was kind and took detailed notes about our concerns, which maintenance confirmed. However, despite the seriousness of these issues, we have yet to be contacted by a manager. When we checked out on Sunday, 1/26, no supervisors were on the property, leaving us feeling like our concerns were not taken seriously.
This was far from the relaxing family getaway we had hoped for. Between the pest problems, mold, and lack of management I wouldn’t recommend. Also there was no willingness for any comp.
