I think the ship has long so since sailed on this place being reasonably described as ‘grand’ - say the property and accommodation are dilapidated is an understatement.
Firstly, the night receptionist was furious at customers with the audacity to arrive past midnight, despite having paid in advance for two rooms. During this exchange he was further exasperated by another guest pressing the entry bell. This was demonstrated by him looking up at the screen and saying a number of expletives.
We made our way to our rooms following signs suggestive of Alice in Wonderland with arrows pointing in every direction. The room smelled very strongly of drains. When we flushed the toilet, a jet of water would erupt from the bath plug. Despite this charming feature, the bathroom smelled much better than the room itself.
The reception manager refused to give me the number of my friend’s room despite me having paid for it. They refused to store our bags whilst we ate in the hotel restaurant saying it was against policy. The music in the reception was a bizarre mix of explicit Eurovision entries and dramatic strings strongly reminiscent of sci-fi horror. The carpets looked like they hadn’t seen a vacuum in months. Unsupervised children were running everywhere as their parents were seemingly on a cocktail of class As.
Finally it’s almost impossible to park and the entire area is populated by crackheads.
Laughably bad.

Tired hotel stuck in the 80s
Fawlty towers on a 'Grand' scale. Impossible to get shower water temperature above tepid, "name's not down, you're not getting in" mentality after I paid for breakfast at check-in - with neither an apology thought about or offered by the server controlling admittance to the restaurant when I returned from reception with the "evidence" I should have been given during check-in the previous day. The room did have fantastic view of the beach and harbour, marred by a balcony littered with cigarette butts - strange for a non-smoking hotel, sending a very wrong message. Tired and of it's time, unfortunately, because it has a fantastic heritage and atmosphere.

Listed grade one historical building
I asked for upgrade to a seaviews room...no problems..great view staff professional friendly helpful...the grand is a listed historical building... well worth a visit for historical buffs !
The hotel room was basic old and dated asked for a sea view but the windows were so dirty it was hard to see.
The staff were polite and helpful the breakfast was good.
In the public areas the decor more than made up for the room. Worth a visit
Beautiful historical hotel, room was good size and had everything what was needed. Hotel had entertainment each evening for free. It is great value for money spent.
I was woken up a few times during the night noises

A very long queue to check in then to be moved to another queue!
Room was not the best but ok to get your head down. Very basic small, bed against the wall which is an issue when of a certain age needing the loo in the night. Very dated cheap furniture.
On going down for breakfast it was £12.50 each but told if we booked on arrival it would have been £10 each, stated that we were not made aware of this, it was the same girl who checked us in. She apologised and said she should have informed us. So I asked as she forgot to tell us could I book the 3 mornings for breakfast £60 but she said no….. wanted £75! I again said that it was her who admitted it was her fault but basically… tough!! So just had it the one morning and went elsewhere, it was the principle not the cost!!
Won’t be booking there again.
The hotel was a complete dump. 1st room was freezing with no window and broken heating, 2nd room also no window, partner put his bag on the floor in the bedroom and went for a shower, water leaked under the floor and soaked his clothing. Nothing done about it. Hotel was dirty and not fit for purpose.

The perfect location for stunning views of the harbour and the beach. A beautiful, imposing property with breathtaking architecture. Sadly the exterior on the side of the beach is in dire need of attention. Peeling paint and filthy windows spoil the aesthetics of the property. Our sea view was marred by the caked on dirt on the window.
The dining room is clean and inviting, the food was good and plentiful. Sadly no luggage store to leave our baggage was disappointing.
Overall a lovely experience but could definitely be better

Location brilliant, breakfast very nice, the checking in time was terrible had to wait a long time in a long queue. The walk to our room had sick left on the carpet for over 24 hours even though it was reported
