FABULOUS 'The Magnolia Garden Bungalow' (#141214) in Santa Cruz is a perfect friends and family getaway. Everyone loves how quiet the neighborhood is! The interior is tasteful, comfortable and has original art throughout. Outdoor Garden areas for you to relax in and barbecue too! The Hot Tub is private, hot and sparkling clean! Excellent location! It's a 5 min stroll to Capitola Village. Also close by and walking distance is 38th Ave Surf Sanctuary Beach (low tide pools to explore & dog walking ) and Bike path, EastSide Eatery, Pleasure Pizza, Suda, Penny Ice Creamery, Verve Coffee Cafe, Betty's Burgers, Cliff Cafe, Pono's Hawaiian, Cinelux Theater etc. Grocery stores nearby are New Leaf, Wholefoods, Trader Joes, etc. A few miles away is the magical Boardwalk. Also going to Natural Bridges to view the Monarch Butterflies hanging from Eucalyptus trees is a must! The living room has a 50" 4K TV ( Netflix, Prime video, Youtube). Front bedroom has a King sized bed & 36" TV the bedroom has hardwood floors, Oriental rug & French doors that lead out to a lovely front garden. French doors lead out to Hot Tub ( Maintained by Hot Tub Water Specialist). Altogether there are 3 Flat Screen TVs, Hot Tub, Wireless Internet, Barbeque. Spacious place in a quiet yet central neighborhood. Clean and comfortable, although a little gloomy in some areas. The layout of different gardens and dog access didn’t work for us very well - the sunny yard adjacent to the kitchen and dining room was off limits for dogs, and thus, by default, us. The yard was also the main access route for Sarah to the rear unit so also not especially private. Maybe I should have read the description more closely but this was not explicitly mentioned and did come as a surprise.

Host seemed annoyed I contacted her ten minutes before arrival so that she could greet us with keys per instructions on VRBO ArrivalPortal. She stated these were “old” instructions (?). I would encourage people to print out arrival instructions because no access to internet before entering by keypad code which requires internet. Place was clean and decent, beds and couches not firm or new. It was fine but overpriced for what it provided. Owners exit and enter on path next to rental unit which does trigger dogs to bark.

Bad VRBO experience

Not very good at all. No hot water for two days. Cold showers in December are not fun. Sink and garbage disposal broke and were inoperable for three days. This made Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals difficult. Plumbers told us we should get a refund since the sink and disposal were clogged with black gunk and goo for a really long time. Owner offered nothing. Will not return, ever.

Great Amenities, Location and OODLES of Charm!

We stayed for a long weekend. The house is really fun with three different, separately fenced areas. There were lots of thoughtful touches throughout the home like a bowl and dog toy for our dog, plenty of pillows, throws, umbrellas, and beautiful art. The kitchen had everything you could think of and then some. In fact, the whole house just has art and pillows and textures everywhere. The hot tub was lovely and we used it every evening. I gave my twin boys the big master in the front and I took the smaller bedroom with the hot tub right off the patio. I wasn't sure from the listing, but there are two bathrooms. The neighborhood was fairly quiet for SC, though it should be noted that there is a back unit and if it's rented, those strangers will be coming through your sideyard where there are a lot of windows. I think the back unit also allows dogs, because there was a little, yappy dog back there every morning about 7 a.m. I didn't mind as I'm an early riser, but just wanted to warn. The only thing this charming, cute little cottage is missing is a nightstand in the smaller bedroom. That would be a nice touch. (Oh and don't forget to buy one of the beautiful cards in the kitchen! They are gorgeous!)

Awesome stay

Everything is top notch. Sara and all the things she does to make your stay comfortable from luxury linens to treats ( both human and for dog) to beautiful gardens to her beautiful artwork and providing a relaxing atmosphere are more than expected. We have stayed here many times and plan to return soon.

Excellent place to stay! The host was great at Communicating with me. She had so many thoughtful touches that made us feel special and very welcomed. Her garden is amazing, just something out of a fairytale!! I highly recommend this place to stay - one of the best places.

Our favorite getaway!

We have stayed in many VRBO properties and this is our favorite. We have had the pleasure of visiting multiple times and enjoyed each one. The neighborhood is quiet, the gardens are beautiful, the decor is peppered with original art and comfy furnishings and Sara, the host, is wonderful. The King size bed is just right and the shower in the back bedroom is perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and we have cooked everything from tacos to chili to pasta and fish. We all enjoyed the treats provided by Sara and our dog enjoys the fenced in front yard and walks in the neighborhood. There are plenty of restaurants close by and some within walking distance. We are looking forward to our next stay in a month or so.

Fabulous family time, with adult children

This was our first VRBO experience, and we were pleased with every aspect of our stay. Compared to hotels, this was beautiful, spacious, comfortable, safe, and relaxing. We appreciated the original art work, the tropical gardens, and the comforts of home. Our small, older dog was happier than he has ever been on a trip. The location is ideal, as the property is set between Capitola and Santa Cruz, just under half a mile from the beach. Thank you to Sara, our host, who went above and beyond to accommodate parking for my son's SUV and trailer. Wonderful memories: kayaking in Santa Cruz, an elegant, delicious meal at Shadowbrook, and relaxing in the hot tub. Everything went smoothly, and we felt at home. We loved our first VRBO stay! Home away from home: Simply Perfect:)

We came here to spend time with our brand new granddaughter and her parents. They live a half a mile away, and we could not have picked a more perfect place to stay. Sara’s magnolia cottage is peaceful, perfectly laid out and lovingly cared for. The gardens are spectacular and soothing. The hot tub was the perfect way to book end our day. I love, love the kitchen and all the equipment. We had everything we needed ( and more). Sara was immediately responsive to any questions or needs. We don’t have any pets, and this is a pet friendly place. The place was impeccably clean, and there was no evidence of any pet dander. This is the best place we have ever stayed. I highly recommend it . It’s also the perfect location with the beach and East Cliff just down the road: not to mention verve coffee, Pizza and a brewery within walking distance. I’m hoping that this will be our go to place on regular visits to Capitola /Santa Cruz. Truly wonderful and we are so grateful.
