Arrived after a long drive in France, longer ferry crossing and this hotel was booked for convenience near the port. Lifts not working, room on the third floor. Heavy luggage, in our seventies, not what we needed. Free drinks given but really more was required. Have used Ibis a few times before with no issues. This experience was very poor.

The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. The only fault was that the lift was only working intermittently and my husband and I did get stuck in it. Which as I am claustraphobic it was a little bit uncomfortable for me.

An ideal Stay

First time in an Ibis Hotel. Check in was friendly, very swift, room very clean, white sheets, white bathroom towels, tea making facilities, TV. Room smallest we've been in but okay for us. Breakfast plenty of choice, cooked, continental, cereals, juice, toast, fruit etc all was being topped up as needed. There was a pool table, table top games available for your use to relax at any time of day. Staff friendly, happy to help. Toilet facilities all very clean. A ten minute walk from Portsmouth, Historical Dockyard. We didn't have an evening meal at Ibis, there was a selection of (what I would class as normal pub meals) so chose to eat out. However this wasn't easy to find as it was graduation time and most were full with people having celebration meals. We would stay there again Would stay here again

What was otherwise a very good stay was overshadowed by the fact that one of the 2 lifts was out of action for our entire 3 night stay The remaining lift was also in and out of action for 3 days, resulting in my disabled relative being trapped on the 4th floor on one occasion and not able to access her 4th floor room from the ground floor on another. staff seemed helpless about the prospect of her accessing stairs to the 4th floor Can’t understand how a vital access service did not receive immediate attention when it clearly malfunctioned the first time and still had not had an engineer visit 2days later I find this totally unacceptable and positively dangerous as I was also unable to open the door to leave the lift on two occasions.

My stay at Ibis Portsmouth was really great although the lift had broken down. This was compensated by the friendly reception staff especially Sike, an African American lady really impressed me on arrival and during my entire stay - not hesitating to ask if everything was fine or suggest what else I could do. She was exceptional, readily available, her professionalism and communication was excellent. At check in, although there was a queue she made eye contact with me with a welcoming smile, gave a beckoning nod that put me at ease and a gesture that made me realise we were finally in the right place (they didn’t know we had missed our way by going to Ibis budget another hotel). What else would you need on arrival ? Diego eventually checked us in but quickly gave me the bad news about the lift. This is not thier fault. He explained that spare parts was yet to arrive. We all had to use the stairwell and in fact the guests were really impressed with reception. Diego and Sike explained the direction to the sea because I really needed to see the ports. The sea port is actually 15 minutes walk. When I needed to eat, I was directed to the restaurant where I met Julilia who such great sales woman, she suggested chicken wrap and tasty cocktails which turned out to be a really delicious. I am definitely coming back for more. Ibis hired some angels who really made me feel at home and enjoyed my vacation. Thank you Sike, Diego and Julia. You exceeded my expectations

The lounge was nice but the lift not working was extremely inconvenient when you are traveling with luggage. They offered for us to stay somewhere else but we were tied and flew internationally. The room was way smaller than imagined. Only two towels total. It was clean and location was good.
