Great spot near a couple music venues. Several things nearby to check out. Big spacious room. Missing creamer though- wish I had checked the night before.
Well stocked mini bar with snacks too.
Stay over cleaning service not offered at all. I had to venture out and personally ask, which felt uncomfortable. Staff was nice enough though… although some of the listed amenities and perks were not offered. That’s on the service. Otherwise, the area isn’t as favorable BUT public transit is pretty central around the area.
We always enjoy our stay at the Grand Stark. Easy to get to, walking distances to music venues, and staff is friendly. We did notice their toilet paper quality went downhill and wouldn’t even call it 1-ply, maybe 1/2-ply at best. Will stay again though
Based on all the amazing reviw s of this hotel I expected a lot. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. While the hotel staff was friendly and efficient the hotel itself is a bit of disappointment. It is old, as noted. But some old hotels are better than others. This one has one major fault, it is loud. You can hear everyone on the floor as they slam their doors and chat in the hallways at all hours. My room was also dirty and there were long black hairs in the bathroom and on the floor. But the biggest disappointment wasn't even the hotel. It was the neighborhood. I have been around this area before and I thought it had been improving as of late. However, I visited on a particularly nice weather week and it brought out all the homeless vagrants populating the streets again. I did want to visit the restaurants in the hotel but they were deserted and I would have been the only customer. That felt a bit weird so I ventured out to all the neighborhood restaurants that google listed. They were mostly all shut down and abandoned. Wandering around at night in this area is not something I would recommend, especially if you are a woman. It is such a shame that Portland is still experiencing such an epidemic of homelessness and drug abuse. I really hope that some day they can turn this around so that businesses can come back and revitalize this area. Until then it is best to avoid. Sorry, your hotel has great potential if properly renovated.
The Grand Stark was the perfect Portland hotel. Within walking distance from the convention center and plenty of restaurants and bars to have a good time!
Very cute hotel! Me and my daughter stayed here for a concert and really enjoyed it. My 12 year old said it was "the cutest hotel she's EVER stayed in." ;)
It's very close to Moda Center and that's why we picked it. The valet parking is fairly spendy but I guess that's to be expected. The floors are slanted in the building upstairs, which was a little strange but that's really my only complaint.
Overall good stay. Sucks that we have to pay a 50$ valet fee for valee but for in city most of the time you have to get vallee. So not to bad, beds were super comfortable.
The hotel was lovely and the staff was polite. I'm docking a star because check in was a couple hours late due to staffing issues in that day. Would still recommend and stay here again.
Most everything was great, though the bedding did not have a fitted sheet and it seemed the top sheet was tucked in as a makeshift fitted sheet, and then there was no top sheet to use between myself and the comforter. There was also some hair and specks on and in the bedding which made it feel less clean.
The hotel is great - nice rooms and amenities and friendly staff. The area of town is a little tricky because there is a soup kitchen very nearby, as well as late-night bars - it can be noisy at times of day/night when sleep is preferred.

Great for an easy stay close to Moda, OMSi
Was here for a quick stay and it was fine. Had a later check in because of a big concert that night, but they gave me a mini bar credit for the inconvenience. Rooms are small but all I needed for a night away. Staff was super friendly and accommodating.
