Sea Sparkle
Sunny Coastal Cottage with Artist Studio and Panoramic Ocean Views
Escape to the charming coastal village of Port Clyde, Maine, and enjoy this bright and welcoming two-bedroom cottage set along a winding harbor road at 73 Horse Point Road. With expansive saltwater views and a relaxed coastal setting, this home offers a comfortable and authentic Maine experience just a short walk from the village.
Sea Sparkle is a classic Maine cottage filled with character and history. Formerly the home of Gertrude Cook, the kitchen retains its original spatter-painted linoleum floor, where many pies were baked overlooking the cove below, where her son once operated a lobster buying wharf. The home carries a nostalgic charm while offering the comforts needed for a relaxing stay.
As you arrive, the setting immediately feels open and coastal, with water views, sea air, and a natural landscape that invites you to slow down and enjoy your surroundings.
This cottage is located along Horse Point Road, a scenic coastal road where locals and visitors enjoy walking and biking. The home sits above the shoreline with a gently rolling lawn in front, followed by the road and guardrail. Beyond that, the land slopes down steeply to the ocean. While this creates beautiful elevated views, the waterfront is not directly accessible from the property and is not suitable for swimming or launching kayaks. For those activities, the nearby public landing and Drift Inn Beach provide excellent access.
The nearby Cooks Cove property, also part of our vacation rental collection, sits just to the right and can be rented separately for guests traveling with a larger group who would like to stay close by while maintaining their own space.
This cottage is best suited for one family or two guests traveling together who appreciate the charm and character of a traditional coastal Maine home.
The driveway comfortably accommodates two vehicles.
Entering the home, you are welcomed into a charming entry space featuring original beaded board, built-in bench seating, open shelving, and a vintage dry sink. This area serves as a practical and inviting place to store coats, shoes, and everyday items.
Off this entry area is a small attached outbuilding that functions as an artist studio or creative retreat. This space includes a desk, chair, and select antiques for inspiration. The doors open outward, allowing in light and fresh air while creating a shaded and sheltered place to read, write, sketch, or relax. Walking through this studio space leads directly to the rear patio.
From the entry, the home flows naturally into the kitchen, which sits at the center of the first floor. The kitchen maintains its vintage charm while providing the essentials for everyday use, creating a comfortable and functional space for preparing meals.
Just off the kitchen is the first-floor bathroom, which features a tiled shower and a traditional pull-chain toilet, maintaining the home’s historic character while remaining fully functional.
Continuing through the home, you enter the living room, which offers a comfortable and inviting space to relax. The room features leather reclining sofas and a smart TV with cable, making it an easy place to unwind after a day of exploring.
Also on the first floor is a cozy bedroom located off the main living area. This bedroom includes a full-size bed, desk, and closet. While there is no bureau in the bedroom itself, a dresser is located in the living room for additional storage if needed.
Upstairs, you will find the primary sleeping area. The second floor includes a queen bedroom with a smart TV, along with an open-concept layout that connects to a bathroom and a small adjoining space that can be used as a reading or writing nook. The ceilings are lower in this area, consistent with the character of the home, creating a cozy and tucked-away feel.
The upstairs bathroom includes a tiled shower, pull-chain toilet, and a closet located within the bathroom space. There are no doors separating the bedroom, bathroom, and adjoining nook, giving this level a more open and flexible layout.
The upstairs nook offers a quiet place to read, write, or paint, with views overlooking the harbor and surrounding coastline.
Outside, the property offers a medium-sized, gently rolling lawn that adds to the natural coastal setting. Adirondack chairs and a propane fire pit create a comfortable place to gather and enjoy the ocean views.
The lawn is well suited for relaxing, reading, or casual outdoor activities.
Behind the home, a patio area surrounded by hydrangeas provides an additional outdoor gathering space with tables and chairs. This is an ideal setting for outdoor dining, morning coffee, or evening cocktails.
The home faces toward the direction of the sunset, and while conditions vary, the evening light can be especially enjoyable from both the lawn and patio areas.
This home is designed to be enjoyed year round. In the summer, the outdoor spaces and proximity to the village create an easy coastal lifestyle. In the fall, the changing light and quieter pace offer a more relaxed experience. In the colder months, the home becomes a cozy retreat, ideal for reading, writing, or simply slowing down.
Around the Fourth of July, you may see fireworks from various points around the harbor. These are typically set off by local residents and may appear in different directions across the water.
