Quiet location, no local shop. Booked due to location inbetween tourist attractions. Staff friendly and helpful. Smoke alarm covered up. Door to bathroom opened inwards so not much room in very small bathroom, hot water tap only trickling, no clothes/ coat hangers. Someone tried handle of door whilst trying to sleep.
Sadly I can’t say much positive. The wifi didn’t work (and there was no phone coverage). Not too much of a problem normally but we needed to drown out the incredibly loud party going on downstairs, including having on the piano… and general screaming! The TV also didn’t work so that was not an option either. Around 40/50 late teens, very drunk, and running up and down the stairs to the accommodation and shouting in the halls. The walls are so thin that we might as well have been in the party. The owner did offer to transfer us to a completely empty building (that was pretty unappealing on walking in) that he told us had no heating on. My daughter was terrified to move over and the rooms were not great, with beds jammed into small rooms (but I guess it was nice to offer to move us). Our room generally was pretty shabby, much like a bunkhouse but twice the price of the bunk houses I’d seen. When we left in the morning I couldn’t find anyone and the pub area was locked with the lights off… when I called to explain where we’d left the key (a fellow guest helped up to find the way out of the building) owner did say he was in the breakfast room, however nobody had mentioned a breakfast room and there was no indication there was one with the fellow guest saying he’d seen the owner leave. We got barely any sleep, had I been alone I’d have asked for my money back and slept in the car! Sorry, wish I could have a nice review.
NOT welcoming, shower inadequate, quite dirty. Pictures are deceiving. Could hear all conversations from other rooms. WiFi didn’t work Would not recommend
Stayed two nights, friendly pub with good food .
Staff were great, location fabulous.
Rooms were clean and good shower, mattress a little lumpy but overall great value for money would definitely use again.
Utilitarian accommodation. Landlord received us in a functional manner. Food was poor. Room was in need of decorative attention.
Clean bedding & a good night's sleep. We left in the morning by the front door...no-one was about.

WE were offered a free upgrade which was great and we will definately stay again when we are back in Wales. Beer was also great which was a bonus for my husband who likes real ale.

A decent base.
Set among the soaring, spectacular mountains of north Powys, this early 18thC pub accommodation is very basic and the rooms need serious updating and some maintenance repairs. Rooms were sparcely furnished but had towels and soap, a large telly and clean bathroom. Despite the very basic provision, there are many plusses. Dai and his staff are very welcoming, very helpful and keen to make your stay a comfortable one. He'll prepare a cooked breakfast himself if you want one and the food is good. We ate there on all three of our nights there. There is free parking space but if full, there's a car park literally a few yards further on. It's very popular with locals with a full complement of dining customers, walkers and also motorcyclists on a one night stop. There were no issues that needed resolving but Dai was very glad to have a chat and make sure you weren't in need of anything.
Location is beautiful but hotel and its services isnt great. The room had leak patches with poor cleaning though bedding was ok. Heating was excellent which helped the kids. Breakfast options were poor with just bread toast as an option.
We arrived at 9PM. It looked like we were not expected. We had to wait about 10 mins to get in a room across the street of the hotel. Possibly that our room was given to someone else. In the room we got it was no soap or shampoo, I had to ask the reception for them. It was no heat, I had to start the radiator, the walls had holes (I was thinking at mice and spiders getting in thru there), a large mirror on a desk was falling if no cup was stopping it from sliding. I was almost to have it smashed by taking the cup for tea. Unpleasant to cross the street with a small child just to ask reception for soap and shampoo
Great location for Welsh nature. Very friendly staff. Had problems with WiFi both in the pub and the room. No info in the room regarding meal times, network access etc which was odd but the ladies behind the bar were very helpful and friendly so was able to have an enjoyable stay.
