It was fun to go back to a 1917 building, which reminded me of the 1918 house that I grew up in for nostalgia. The palm tree needed trimmed that was growing right up against the window! Somebody needs to take a chainsaw of those palm fronds. Their winds need washed on the outside. The staff was very nice.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. It’s getting older and has a musty older smell and could use some updates, but the room was great and no complaints. The front desk staff, two younger fellows had the personality of a dead fish. I never did get my receipt for the stay. When my mom was alive, she was friends with the owner, and I’m sure she would want to know that the front desk staff was not the friendliest. We stayed for 3 nights and the next day our key card was disabled. It worked for the first night and we left for breakfast the next morning and came back and couldn’t get in the room. Our keycard was not left in a hot car or near our cell phone, in which the front desk tried to imply that we must have done.

I chose this property on a recent trip to Grover Beach since it was a lot more Inexpensive than other closer options, and a half hour drive was worth it to me. I don’t think I’ll do that again. It was pretty far off the highway with plenty of stoplights so it wasn’t as convenient location-wise as I had thought. This facility looks like it was really elegant in its day, but it’s getting worn out. Hot water didn’t work in the shower, no clock in bedroom, fire alarm went off a few times between 5:00 and 5:30, mattresses had the “romantic roll” depression down the center. The room was very spacious with a charming bay window and crown molding, and the grounds are well kept. I could see the pool from my window and it was pretty and landscaped and a rather large area where a whole family could have a nice time, as a couple families were. The property needs some TLC to bring it back to three-star quality., as advertised But to be fair, they didn’t charge me a three-star price.

I liked the staff and the Tap Room. Great happy hour and delicious food. Unfortunately our room was sub par. Dirty blinds, a balled up mattress cover you could feel under the sheets, corners of the bathroom had dirt and hair in them, cheap press board table that was all chipped up. They gave us a room far from the lobby, although the place seemed empty. Pool was not clean and hot tub extremely noisy due to low water and dirty at the bottom. A disappointing stay.

This property is outdated and dreary hallways and rooms. The gym is a disaster with broken machines missing dumbbells, out of service restroom, and no cups for the water machine. 4:48 am Sunday morning, a faulty fire alarm started blaring and continued intermittently blaring until at least 7:00am when we finally gave up trying to sleep and got the heck out of the hotel.

Well, an old hotel is an old hotel. It is what we expected and what we got. There were three things that did irritate me. First, when we looked at our credit card account, the charge was $50 higher than we anticipated. Second, the hotel restaurant was closed, we had hoped it would be open in the morning. Last, evidently the cafe played some junk jazz music, all night long, without stopping. When we inquired about it the next day, we were told they did not know how to turn it off. Single pane windows did not block any of the sound, either. Not exactly soothing, especially when we had to get up at 5:30 AM the next day. The next day, after we checked out, the extra charge was deleted from our credit card, so that worked out OK. I would probably not go back. The new section might be nicer, but I will never know.

I booked a standard King and my room was small, shabby, had a full size bed, a toilet that would run every 10 minutes and a non-functioning AC unit. When I went back to the desk to request another room I was told I had booked a queen size but they would upgrade me to a king. I tried to show him the reservation on my phone but he wouldn’t look at it. Upgraded room was much better, but the entire property is dated, a little shabby and smelled musty.
