The bar is closed and the restaurant is closed and I was told there is illegal immigrants staying there so they should not be renting out rooms to the public, that’s why the bar and restaurant is closed it’s a joke.

Television worked for the first night then nothing for next two days . Front desk staff said it must’ve got knocked out by the rain however it was a sunny day! Phone to the front desk didn’t work. Shower gel bottle empty , no toilet paper ,no hairdryer, no ice no water no water glasses. Carpets were old and filthy.

Lovely, very helpful staff. Bathroom wasn't quite as clean as it might have been (a mould & mildew remover would fix that) but the room was spacious and super quiet. Excellent value for money.

Reception staff were not welcoming just handed us our room key without even telling us the room number or where to go! Curtains in the public areas hanging off and cushions from the sofas were all over the floor! The hotel smelt very damp and mouldy as did the room. The room was freezing cold with the windows wing left wide open when we arrived - probably to disguise the mouldy smell! There was no cups for the tea and coffee, no shower gel in the bottle and the shower was just a trickle! The bed smelt horrible and not clean! The tv remote didn’t work!

It was a nice stay, however slight mix up at the desk, but quickly resolved. Room was nice and tidy, only one complain was there was a cigarette dout next to the kettle, however it was all clean, that was the only disappointment about the experience, so all in all a very nice stay.

Good value for money, great location.

Great location within in a few minutes walk of the train station and right next to Union Street. With that comes noise however. It recommend asking for a room facing away from the street. Had an awful nights sleep due to drunks fighting and traffic. Not the fault of the hotel however. Room was clean but tired. Wall paper is torn and the carpet is stained, but I didn’t affect my stay. The bed was comfortable and clean and the bathroom was excellent. Lovely modern and hot shower with towels and toiletries provided. The only feedback that I can give that the hotel can change is the lighting situation. Having to have the huge ceiling light on at night is too much. Perhaps look at some ambient lighting / lamps. Also, not a single plug socket anywhere near the bed. I can’t understand why? The ones behind the beside tables are special round sockets and not useable. It would be so easy to change these! I use my phone as my alarm so need to charge it overnight. I thought it a bit mean that I wasn’t allowed my room when I arrived at 2:30pm too, given that the key cards for arriving guests were already done behind the desk. I’d been travelling all day and it would have been a nice gesture. I had to wait outside for 30 mins. All in all a pleasant stay and I’d be happy to stay here again without a problem and very reasonable on price too.

Staff were efficient and helpful. Good central location and competitive price. However, for a 4* hotel, it is very run down. Curtains in the room faling down, old decor, tired looking. All a bit stale. Breakfast was decent, but no hot plates to keep cooked breakfast warm, so expect it to be luke warm or cold.

Severe decline in the Hotel...

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the significant decline in the ROX hotel, I have stayed at the hotel in the past (pre covid) on numerous occasions and it was always my go to hotel. But unfortunately my stay on Friday, 29th August. I was extremely disappointed with the condition of the hotel, on arrival we were told the the bar was closed and room keys were un available, the overall cleanliness was unacceptable. The room also had a strong damp smell, and the landing had a strong smell of cannabis. In addition, the shower in our room was broken, and the door locks were not functioning, meaning we did not have keys and had to rely on hotel reception staff to escort us every time we needed access. These issues caused significant inconvenience and raised serious safety and privacy concerns. I would like to note that the manager was lovely and welcoming, and we appreciated their efforts during our stay. Since our stay, I have experienced itching and discomfort, which I believe may be related to the room conditions. This experience was far below the standard I expected, especially given the hotel’s previous reputation and 4 star rating I did not raise the issues during my stay as I was unwell, but I feel it is important to formally bring them to your attention. I request a response regarding how the hotel intends to address these problems and any compensation or remedial action you consider appropriate. I look forward to your prompt response. Kind regards
