Superb position, you can hear the waves crashing as you leave the hotel, with stunning views across the road. Even dived in the inviting looking North Sea, which is invigorating! Parking is limited, but is free after 6pm at a large carpark a short stroll away. Excellent cooked breakfast from 6:30 to 10am which suited my fine - really friendly staff; even asked if I needed anything for my room each day which was a lovely touch. Room in need of a bit of decorating, but was very clean and provided everything I needed including tea/coffee making facility. Very good fish and chip shop nearby but look out for the starlings - they're actually very sweet! Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Whitley Bay!

The staff were nice and the full English breakfast was good. The hotel is undergoing renovation - I'm sure it will be lovely when it's done but right now it's noisy with dark, very basic rooms.
Always an enjoyable stay. Super friendly and welcoming. Always sleep so well here and to wake up to a lovely breakfast. The fact the beach front is directly opposite is wonderful.
This hotel is a 200 year old building and it really felt like it needed painting everywhere.
We stayed in a superior twin room, the beds were not comfortable and the bathroom did not feel clean.
Saying this all the staff were amazing and could not do enough for you. My mum needed extra blankets on the first night and they were brought to us straight away.
The continental breakfast was really good as was the food in the restaurant.
It was a brilliant stay they lady at the front desk was amazing and breakfast was fantastic! Would recommend and would happily stay again!

Amazing Breakfast, Great Staff!
Great staff, very friendly and helpful all round.
The hotel is being renovated so it will be good to go back when it’s finished.
I’d still recommend a stay even during the upgrade work.
The breakfast is TOP DRAWER! 👍
It was nicely situated on the spotlessly clean promenade
The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was excellent - nice rashers and sausages.
It was being renovated so there was hoarding around the outside, but that did not bother me.
Rooms being renovated with sea view looked as if they will be really nice.
Room 13 was spacious with a nice clean bathroom. Would stay here again.
The hotel is excellent value for money. Walking distance for many venues. Walk-in shower was great. Yes the room needs updating, however everything was absolutely spotless. Will definitely stay again.

The location of the hotel us perfect for The Spanish City and the beach. The hotel is under renovation and it looks closed. Reception is old and outdated. The staff are nice and helpful. Rooms are ok, bedding was clean and the sea view was great. Breakfast was standard buffet. The breakfast staff are very nice. If they are also renovating the rooms, this will be a fab place. But, at the moment, its ok. Parking is approx 8 or 9 spaces at he front on a first come first served basis. We were lucky to grab a space.
I have never been so disturbed by a hotel ever in my life. I checked in on August 1 and left the premises within 15 minutes. When I walked into the room, there was an obvious stagnant odor in the room.. I still tried to make myself stay after driving.I l laid on the lumpy old mattress for a few minutes and I began to fill my throat tighten to whatever it was in the room. I understand they are supposedly under a remodeling period, however, that is no excuse for the air quality to be in that condition. I began having breathing issues.. the desk attendant did show me other rooms hoping they would be different. I viewed 3 rooms in total. They were all the same..
I literally booked this room within 20 minutes of walking in with a no refund for cancellation since I thought I was definitely staying after driving many hours. Though their hotel was causing a severe allergic reaction due to a thick stagnant stench in their room with zero airflow I wasn’t offered a refund. The staff also could not suggest a hotel nearby that he considered a safe place to stay. Expedia and myself contacted management and they are refusing a refund.
I attempted to be kind to the gentleman showing me the room with saying “perhaps it was a cleaning agent”, causing my reaction. But after reviewing the other rooms, I quickly came to realize it was the LACK of cleaning. & LACK OF AIR CIRCULATION.
I would not under any circumstances suggest the Royal hotel at Whitley Bay for anyone ever.
