This house is near South Point, the southern most tip of the `Big Island` in a lush part of the Kau District. It has beautiful views from the glass enclosed lanai or from any place in the garden of the ocean, the sometimes snow capped Mauna Loa Mountain, the 5th fairway of the golf course, Naalehu, and the volcanic plume visable from far away up the coast in Volcano National Park where the lava meets the sea. It is just minutes away from Kawaa Beach, the Buddhist Temple in Wood Valley, the Black Sands Beach at Punalu`u, and the Green Sands Beach at South Point (you need four wheel drive to drive to the Green Sands Beach, or you may park and walk). Take in the spectacular views at the Volcano National Park; see the earth renewing itself with the lava flowing into the ocean, creating new land, and check out the hidden lava tree forest. You can go to Kailua-Kona or Hilo and take in the sights and return to your own little corner of the world and relax in this beautiful home with all the creature comforts.

Most guests rent vehicles at either Hilo or Kailua-Kona airports. Free parking on-site. The County of Hawaii has a public bus system with schedules, routes and fares available on the County Website.
The house is located on a cul-de-sac with only one other house on the north side about 40 yards away. The golf course is also on the north and east side. Thick vegetation and Christmas berry trees are on all other sides of the house, making it very private.
From the Pagoda you can see the golf course, Mauna Loa and the ocean. The smells of the hibiscus, plumeria, and white and red ginger is intoxicating.
The South Point area is sparsely populated, therefore there are few lights to compete with the stars at night, allowing awesome star gazing.

Please lock all windows and doors when leaving the house.
There are two large trash bins in the garage for the disposal of house trash. If both garbage containers in the garage are full, it is time to go to the dump. Replace liners with black plastic garbage bags above the dryer.
The driving directions to the dump are:

You will come to a stop sign and take left on Highway 11

Pool maintenance is once a week. His name is Nathan and he has a key to get in the gates.
The gardens and lawn are taken care of by Savory Shaw. He comes often and he has access to the garage.
Keep the garage door closed at all times. Critters like to get in.
There can be an occasional centipede or cane spider that find their way into the house. They are usually not that big and there is a flyswatter in the kitchen closet.
Do not use the garbage disposal as we have a septic system that cannot handle it.
Please be sure to keep counters wiped clean and food put away so as not to attract ants. There are small grey traps set around the counter and certain floor areas. Roach traps are set under the sinks and under some furniture.
The stove is an induction stove. It is not like other glass top electric ranges and we have special pans for cooking. Do not use any pans that we have not provided as it could compromise the stove. Do not turn on the burner until ready to use as it takes no time at all to warm up. Do not clean the stove top with anything abrasive. Use a soft cloth (no paper towels) with dish soap.
Pool Rules:
Children must be under supervision of an adult at pool side at all times. If children are present keep the sliding doors locked and alarms on at each sliding door that enters the pool.
No diving.
No suncreen can be worn in the pool. The oils, etc gum up the works of both systems.
The gates to the pool must be locked at all times.
No glass of any kind can be on the pool deck or in the pool.
The pool is heated by the solar system so one day the water may be warmer than another depending on the amount of sunlight.
Do not attempt to “fix” anything on the controls on the side of the house. Nathan is the pool manager and he comes once a week to clean the pool and do any adjustments.
