Moturua Island - Bay of Islands

This idyllic island is part of the Bay of Islands maritime park and is a short 7NM boat ride from either Russell or Paihia. The well appointed Lockwood home nestles amongst established trees right in the centre of this glorious sandy bay. With a short 20 metre walk down to the beach, this is a perfect retreat to get away from the daily grind. Explore the island on one of the many walks, check out the list of endangered bird species recently relocated on the island, listen to the Kiwi call at night, or just enjoy the peace and sunshine at this unique location. Access is by one of the commercial water taxis or else your own private boat. There is a wharf to unload your gear plus a dinghy available and a mooring to tie up on.
Please bring your own linen. We supply two rolls of toilet paper so if you think you might need more, please bring extra.

Minimum booking of 3 nights required or 1 week over the peak of summer
Access is by water taxi or by own boat only.
Water restrictions may apply over summer.
Please leave property as you find it (clean before leaving and take rubbish) or you can choose the cleaning option ($120)

Paradise

We had the most amazing time. Absolutely stunning spot and the accommodation had everything we needed. We saw dolphins in the bay, gathered crayfish from the boat and caught fish off the point. Native birds everywhere! We felt very lucky to be able to enjoy this slice of paradise.

Lovely stay on an amazing island

We stayed for three nights as part of DOC work. Was a cute little bach in an amazingly peaceful bay. The hosts were very lovely. Make sure you read the description well and bring toilet paper and linen. The bird life was fantastic, kiwi calling at night. Close to all the tracks and a great way to experience Moturua island.

Just a small beautiful island !!!

Awesome Island Getaway

Island Getaway

Having spent most summer holidays staying at Moturua in the late 90's it was fantastic to be back. This is a true island holiday which allows you to genuinely switch off. The lockwood has a well equipped kitchen, and three well sized bedrooms. Inside is kept extremely tidy, as is the surrounding property. We utilised the mooring for a 5m boat, and Andy kindly assisted us with our luggage to & from the wharf. We were fortunate enough to even spot a local island kiwi at night from the deck. Highly recommend this property.

Bay of islands family getaway

We stayed at this Bach to base ourselves and family in the bay of islands for a week of boating. House was an excellent home base and had all that we needed. Andy was incredible helping us check in and out. Recommend!

Magical Family Holiday in Paradise

This property and location are ABSOLUTELY BREATH TAKING. The Bach is simple, but all that you need for a relaxing beach/island holiday. The property managers are excellent, knowledgeable to history of the BOI area, and always helpful should anything unforeseen go wrong!🚤 The bay is picture perfect and the kids loved swimming and exploring the incredible wildlife found on land and in the water. It is a popular bay for all kind of water vessels that anchor in the bay or just pass by. We can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend.

Incredible few days away in paradise

We absolutely loved our stay here in paradise! We will absolutely be booking again. It was an awesome batch with everything you need! The views were breath taking! What more could you want that waking up to the most gorgeous sunrise, kids playing endlessly on the beach, evening fishing trips with the kids, amazing tracks and walks to different bays which are absolutely stunning... amazing fruit trees and bird life.. honestly can’t wait to come back!
