Rothbury is set along the River Coquet where you can fish for salmon and trout. The golf course is just over the bridge should you be a keen golfer. Cragside House (National Trust) is in walking distance and packed full of quirky inventions with stunning gardens in spring and summer.

Rothbury has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways, bakeries and a few independent shops, as well as an award-winning butcher and a riverside and play park for the children. Parking in this friendly small town is free and available in most of the small town. A few miles drive will take you over to Alnwick, home to the Duke of Northumberland, where he resides in the famous castle which is open to the public, and was used in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scenes. A day trip over to the Northumberland National Park is well worth the effort in any season and Kielder Water Riverside has plenty of stopping-off picnic areas for the family. The stunning Northumberland Heritage Coastline makes for a wonderful day out where you can explore up and down the coastline taking in historic castles and some unspoilt golden beaches.
