Great old hotel, all wonky and original features are lovely. Great customer service, lovely buffet full breakfast. Just perfect for an overnighter in this fantastic town.
A beautiful old building, in a beautiful town!
Buxton has been restored massively since we last came here 14 years ago and the whole place is stunning! The hotel, although a little tired, was excellent! We had a lovely room, great breakfast and the staff were great! We will definitely be back!
Amazing 4-poster bed very historical very clean and cosy

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The old hall cannot be beaten in terms of history. Its truely amazing how many historical figures have been here.
However, i do think the hotel has seen better days but not in the way you'd think. The modern fixtures (bathroom) are really badly weathered, the rooms dont seem to be as clean as you'd hope. The older fixtures in the rooms were way better kept, which doesnt make sense. It feels as though maybe the love to keep the hotel, as a whole, has been lost.
In terms of someone that's staying with young children like us, I'd suggest staying else where. As its an old building the rooms are not soundproof & so little kids moving about is really hard to control. Which i guess is somewhat my own fault for not researching futher but as they offered a family room I thought it wouldnt be that bad.
The breakfast was lovely, lots of options for a buffet.
If you require assistance with luggage, there's no "bellboy" or staff available for this & the only lift is from almost 100 years ago so its quite small (pretty cool its still used). So keep this in mind for those that cant carry their own luggage or have a lot.
If youre needing somewhere to stay for a night then this may be a cool option but personally i wouldnt book this hotel for more than that.

Stay at the Old Hall Hotel
Super friendly staff, really helpful. The hotel is quite tired but has amazing history. Food selection for dinner is also quite limited. With such amazing local produce in the area, it would be nice to see some of that featuring. No residents in the restaurant and only a couple of tables in the bar had diners and on a Saturday night.
YES WE ENJOYED OUR STAY VERY MUCH. LOVELY WARM AND HOMELY HOTEL. LOVED THE QUIRKY LIFT.
LOVED THE HISTORY OF THE HOTEL. THE DOWNSIDE WAS THE EXTORTIONATE PRICE OF SANDWICHES AND SOUP FROM THE BAR. £10 FOR A WAFER THIN SANDWICH OF BEEF AND 4 CHEAP CRISPS. SOUP ALSO £10. SCANDALOUS ALSO DRINKS EXPENSIVE. THE BAR ROOM WAS FAR TOO DARK. WE WILL BE BACK BUT WILL CERTAINLY NOT ORDER FOOD!!!!
Good hotel. Friendly efficient staff. Rooms spacious and clean, comfy bed. Furniture a bit tired but old furniture often is, why throw it away and buy new when it’s perfectly usable. Hugh bath!! So much history in this building. Dinner menu was limited and they had run out of a few options too so a little disappointing but food reasonable and hot. Breakfast much better, no complaints there.

Mixed Feelings at Old Hall Hotel, Buxton.
We were staying for 2 nights as a birthday treat for me. The hotel is one of the oldest in the country I believe, so a little allowance for age was important. Our Family Room no. 22 was massive and very comfortable and pleasant. There were snags though eg. Vinyl split in bathroom floor, radiator didn't work in bathroom. Horrendously bright LED street light outside the window making it hard to sleep as there are only shutter blinds on the window - no curtains!
Overall, we liked the room and the bed was comfy but the pillows were terrible! 4 x flat, hard pillows....even in a Travelodge, you get a choice of firm or soft.
The location is great. Right next to the beautiful Pavillion gardens and Opera House...so central but still peaceful.
And I wouldn't fault the breakfast staff and provision - they were happy to provide veggie sausages for us vegetarians. And everything was well cooked and tasty.
All in all, it was a mixed reaction. In the front lounge somebody had done an amazing Christmas decor complete with a Muppet themed tree! But elsewhere, dirty front entrance with wallpaper peeling off the ceiling......and you'd have to pay me to use the scary ancient lift again!!!
I was also disappointed that in spite of my partner informing a number of staff about my birthday.....nobody made any special gesture - no free drink or anything. Thought that was a bit mean.....
There's character and shabby chic, and then there's tired and needing work.....The Old Hall felt like the latter

Had a very enjoyable stay. The room was a little tired but was warm and inviting The only negative was the mattress which was obviously past its best as it hollowed out on one side.
The dinning room was beautiful with white starched linen table cloths and serviettes . The staff were attentive and the breakfast delicious .

Bit disappointed at breakfast staff were slow coming round with coffee pot in the end I didn’t bother with coffee as I had finished my breakfast. The breakfast itself was good for self service.
Overall a good stay and we would return.
Location, in the centre of the town. Next to a beautiful park and leisure facilities. All attractions and shops within walking distance. Parking £6 for 24 hours for hotel visitors, not many spaces because they are public ones but we were lucky and dropped on one.
Receptionist was exceptionally kind, attentive and helpful.
Room, spacious, clean and warm. Beautifully decorated and this gives it a comfortable opulent feeling to match the grand old historcal building.
Evening restaurant experience was disappointing, expensive for food that was nothing special. Incomplete cheese board, no grapes, however no prior warning which would have influenced our choice. Breakfast was a buffet, typical choices and fresh, however room to hughly improve using locally sourced organic food which would ooze flavour and make it a breakfast to remember.
Check in was nice and quick by friendly staff.
Room very spacious, large bathroom, comfortable bed, room nice, clean and warm.
Breakfast was great, help yourself to anything that was available.
The hotel is very old with lots of character, great building.
Everyone was very polite and helpful, gave us some great information with what was going on around Buxton and how to get to Bakewell on the local transport.
Great stay, would definitely stop here again, when next coming up that way.
Thanks.
This property is amazing. Just think? you are staying in a 1500's character established Home that is now a Hotel it made my daughter and I feel so special, the staff are kind and accommodating and the Breakfast is amazingly delicious and plentiful. We will definitely stay there again next time we visit.
Thank you for a pleasant and enjoyable stay A*****
