RODE HAVING THE EOLI ISLANDS
Small and afforested fishing village, 15 km from Messina city, RODIA, overlooks the Aeolian Islands.
It is only a 20-minute drive from Milazzo, the renowned resort from which the hydrofoils depart for the Aeolian Islands.
The village is far from worldliness and mass tourism, but equipped with all the comforts.
There are bars, restaurants, 2 equipped beaches and miles of free and unpolluted beaches.
Near Rodia there are several sightseeing tours: going to Messina (crossing the coast) you will meet the two lakes of Ganzirri, where you can enjoy great local fish specialties. Shortly afterwards you meet Punta Faro, with its Pylon that seems to touch Calabria.
Half an hour by car from Messina you arrive at the renowned Taormina, with the Giardini Naxos and its scenic Greek theater. Always near Taormina you can spend a wonderful day visiting the Gorges of Alcantara, and the typical village overhanging the sea, where they shot scenes of the film 'The Godfather', which is called Forza D'agro.
Continuing on the highway you can not help but see the scenic Vulcano Etna, one of the few still active in Italy. We recommend a day trip to visit it on foot or by jeep.
Acitrezza and Acireale (two wonderful fishermen's villages) continue, then go straight to Catania and then to the airport (from Rodia about 1 hour drive).
Going to Palermo, however, there are several places to visit: Marinello lakes under the Shrine of Our Lady of Tindari, Santo Stefano di Camastra (famous for its wonderful ceramics), Cefalù and Capo D'Orlando, both seaside villages visit absolutely.
Although not a world-class resort, Rodia allows in less than an hour's drive to visit local marine locations and not only. Traveling by car, not on the coast but on the hinterland, then on the mountains, you will have the chance to visit beautiful village villages (Willow, Dinnamare and its sanctuary, Nebrodi mountains etc.).
Even Rodia does not miss fun. Beach lids always offer a variety of activities, group games, kids, theme evenings and water sports.
To reach Rodia, by plane, you can choose between two airports: Fontanarossa Airport of Catania (1h drive) or the Strait of Reggio Calabria Airport (10 min by car and 20 min by ferry to Messina).
