Made the best of it ... but very disappointed in the end

As we were driving up on Thanksgving, the owner contacted me while I was navigating the GW Bridge into NY. He told me that the furnace was out in the rental we booked, but he would put us up in a smaller property he had about a mile away. This was not the time to negotiate, so I said okay. We finally arrived, and as we unloaded our car, there was a loud train whistle. We looked across the street to find a commuter train running right by the house! The place was small, but a clean 2 bedroom with four beds. My youngest ended up sleeping in the living room, because the bedroom was crowded.That train went by pretty regularly until after midnight and started back up again at 7am. The train and it's whistle filled the entire apartment and we half expected the place to shake! We made jokes about being in the My Cousin Vinnie movie, because of how loud it was. When the train wasn't running, the heater was super loud as well. There was no regulating the temperature, it was either pretty cold or too hot. Thankfully, it was only a two night stay. I had expected the owner to give me a refund. At the very least, the place he put us up in was less expensive by 20 a night. I messaged him a couple of times, asking for a partial refund, but he never responded. While my family made the best of it, we were all pretty disappointed in this rental. We generally enjoy our stays, but this one will be talked about for years because of that train!

Lot's of charm, 4.5 Stars a little polish would be 5 Stars

It seems to be new to Vrbo. Place was very clean & pleasant. There a few niggles. The stair treads are small but normal for 1900. Shower handle falls off. Lights unplugged or hidden power strip off. Couldn't open window in bdrm & no screens. Kitchen was large but missing amenities; tea kettle, sugar, K cups, salt pepper? All of the little things that you need, but don't bring. I would have discussed more with the Host but couldn't contact via Vrbo app after, 1st or 2nd night? Can't verify when because I can't get back into the messages on Vrbo app, that is my biggest problem. I would recommend this place.
