Holiday In Malaga

Wanna kick back old-school on the coast of Spain? Spend your next holiday in Málaga, a city that hit its stride in the 15th century and just kept getting better. How could it not, really?

Located in the southern region of Andalusia, Málaga has more than graceful grey horses (though you may see a few of them running free in the city’s own national park, so bring your hiking boots). If you’re not feeling outdoorsy, tour ancient architecture, sunbathe on the beach, and go ham over delicious tapas and, well, ham. Manzanilla olives are also quite abundant, so bring an empty suitcase, martini drinkers! Already chanting “Viva España”? Get in on awesome package deals to Málaga and get out the door!

Things to Do in Málaga

Málaga covers a lot of ground, but just like beach lovers, many of the top landmarks can be found in Centro—the city centre. Start your Málaga holiday right there at Alcazaba. Completed in 1063, this ancient Arabic fort offers stellar views of the waterfront and it’s holding its age impressively well. From there, you’ll be a short walk from Mirador de Gibralfaro—a huge hilltop castle built in the 10th century. Wowza!

Rejoin the current millennium at the nearby Picasso Museum or the Centre Pompidou Malaga, a colourful showcase of Spain’s contemporary arts scene. When you’re ready to leave the gallery life behind, pick up one of our Málaga car hire options and drive out to the Parque Natural Montes de Málaga for a gorgeous hike past waterfalls and historic cottages. Next, roll the windows down and take the scenic route down to Playa de la Malagueta (aka the beach) to soak up some sun near Málaga’s hottest shopping and dining spots!

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

In Málaga, you’ll have your pick of high-end European boutiques. For an arvo sifting through designer finds, take a walk down La Calle Larios in the historic centre. At night, the street is covered with a canopy of fairy lights in case you stay late (it’s a good thing you’ll save so much money with cheap Málaga packages—keep on buying #amirite).

If you’re dreaming of an epic tapas tour, you’ve got it! These finger foods involve the best things in life—bread and olives, cheese, seafood, veggies and meats—all pieced together like art. Tapas are a great way to start your meal, finish your meal or prolong your meal. Pre-game your palate with refreshing gazpacho and you’re good to go.

After dark, you can linger at the tapas bar with cocktails and good conversation. But if your feet are waiting for the dance floor and your ears are craving smooth jazz, seek out a busy plaza—especially Plaza de Uncibay or Plaza de la Merced. Both neighbourhoods are in the city centre and many venues stay open till 4 p.m., at which point you can stop in for an early morning coffee and get back to sightseeing.
