Room was excellent and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great breakfast. Excellent location for bus , less than 10 minutes by bus to York Minster and The Shambles.

Nice little B&B within walking distance to the city centre. This was a convenient location with onsite parking available. The room was spacious and comfortable for the most part although our bed was very creaky so maybe the mattress or base needs replacing. Shower was excellent and the breakfast was good, recommended!

Walking distance to train station and city... good location. Property itself is a little tired, curtains fell down when we tried to pull them across in our room. 5 flights of stairs to the room, and 6 down to breakfast, no lift. Staff friendly and attentive in the breakfast room and a decent but basic breakfast.

The room was awful!! The girl on reception was lovely and made some repairs while we were out on Saturday but I did not expect toilet seat that didnt fit and a WC that moved when you sat on it and black mould in the bathroom! The curtains didnt have enough rings, bedside lights didnt work and the electrics were mainly on an extension lead that I very much doubt had been Pat tested! Should have all been fixed before the room was let!

Place was clean and cosy! As I was a little later than planned the front desk made sure I was still available and double checked to make sure I was still here! Great customer service - wouldn’t hesitate to recommend people staying at the location

The staff members were wonderful hosts… helpful, polite, and professional. The breakfast was delicious and served in a delightful space. The Holmwood House is a great value.

We stayed 2 nights on a short break to York on a budget. It was about a 15 min walk into the center of York which was perfect for us and a 10 min walk to Delrio's Italian restaurant which we would highly recommend The property was clean and the staff were pleasant. It is worth noting that there is an an extra £10.00 a day charge for parking which is highlighted when booking and is a fraction of the cost of the public carpark charges

Not for us

Booked for a 2 night stay in a luxury room with en suite and 4 poster bed however that’s not what we got When we arrived we where given a standard double which was the cheaper rate room after a chat at reception it appears hotels.com sold me a room that wasn’t available so nothing more anyone could do I was offered a refund for the difference but Iv been home for a week and still nothing so now Iv taken the mater up with the booking site Hotel was very dated and not the cleanest of places but location wise it was 5 minutes to the train station 10 minutes to town and the breakfast was decent We stayed on a very warm weekend and there was no air con or a fan available making it impossible to sleep Would I stay here again simple answer is no
