This was our favourite viewpoint of Sete Cidades. A short hike that our guide had previously refused to tell us about, even when I asked about all the cars parked seemingly in the middle of nowhere. It simply wasn't one of his stops. Tours all go to Vista do Rei, which is nice, but this is nicer, especially if the weather isn't sunny.
Hotel Monte Palace, is an abandoned 5 star hotel in S. Miguel Island in Azores. On the other side you have a majestic view to Lagoa das Sete Cidades, a Unesco Natural Wonder. This hotel,built on the late 80's was open to public only for one year and a half..its abandoned since 1986,and completely destroyed inside. It still atracts many tourist. I took this picture last February.

Super cute pod style hotel. Very quiet and low-key setting. During the off-season be prepared to drive out of town for dining, or the kitchen is well stocked to stay in and cook. Good internet connection and the fireplace was amazing on a rainy day.
