Holiday In La Palma

“Narrow and shady” aren’t always attributes you look for in a person, but they are in a city! Especially in a place like La Palma with tight cobblestone streets full of shadows cast by palaces and palm trees.

La Palma—full name La Palma de Mallorca, in case you’re wondering—is located on island of Mallorca, one of Spain’s Balearic Islands just 255km south of Barcelona. Once home to the Romans, Turks and pirates, it’s now full of visitors from all over the world. Pick out your La Palma package deal and head to the island life!

Things to Do in La Palma

If you ever dreamed about being royalty (or even if you didn’t), you have to visit Bellver Castle. Built in the 14th century, the building has a unique circular shape, much like the Coliseum in Rome. Instead of gladiators or Russell Crowe, though, you’ll run into a history museum and an open-air theatre, where you can catch a show from the local orchestra.

Don’t miss Catedral de Mallorca during your La Palma holiday. This massive cathedral is open for tours, so explore its religious art as well as local artefacts. The island is also a big festival magnet, so try to schedule your trip around some of its exciting events. Sobrassada Fair honours meaty sausages Nit de Foc is a city-wide street party with fireworks, concerts and fire run where folks dressed as devils run through the streets with firecrackers (as one does) and Fonart Short Film Festival, which promotes locally made short films. See, sometimes things that only last a few minutes are a great thing. And if you really like to go fast, check out our La Palma car hire options and zoom around the island.

Shopping, Dining, Nightlife

Ready to shop? Heck yes, you are—and the money you saved on your package deal to La Palma means you’ll have plenty of cash to drop on souvenirs. As you’ll notice, the Spanish love fashion, so spend at least part of your holiday in La Palma hitting up the shopping districts of Avinguda Jaume III and Passeig des Born for boutique threads, or visit Placa Major and Centro Comercial Porto Pi for primo browsing.

Residents of La Palma believe in fresh, light and colourful when it comes to their food. Seafood is caught hours before arriving on your plate, with sauces that incorporate fresh herbs grown on the island. Olives are also popular here, so if you’re an olive lover (great taste, you!), this is your new home base.

Nightlife in La Palma is intense…in a very good way. Clubs are huge, with multiple levels and strobe lights. Patrons are often half-naked and covered in confetti, and drinks flow long into the night. It’s not a holiday to La Palma without some glitter, so dress accordingly.
