The unit just seemed to be a bit past its best. The fixtures were seemingly installed in the 1950s and are showing plenty of wear (chipped kitchen sink; shower head sprays a random mist; shower needs to be regrouted; light pours in between the front door and its frame). Multiple light bulbs (LR, BR, kitchen) were out, and there were various places where the walls had been patched but not fully repainted. The external lighting situation is not great either. The walk to the cottage is quite dark, and while there is a motion activated light, the sensor is located at the gate end of the path, so it doesn't help when you depart hardly at all. But, the sensor point is still easily a dozen feet into the yard (after the gate), so you still have to walk blind past the gate until the light comes on.Also, there is a single (always on) security light that I guess serves the central area between the 3 units on the property. Annoyingly, it is aimed directly at the head of the bed in the bedroom, and angled so that it beams between the window frame and the blinds. Some things were better than I expected: the patio at the rear of the unit made for a great dining room (we ate most of our 'home' meals there); the ice cube trays were top-notch; there were two hair-dryers in the bathroom. For sure, being there means you are in Key West, which was an excellent as always. You can definitely store your stuff, and get a decent night's sleep.
