Excellent location for early morning flights. Nescafé instant coffee packets in room. Good range of channels on TV. Clean and comfortable rooms. Black out curtains pretty good. Quiet despite being at airport. Nice outdoor pool and sitting area. Decent cardio equipment in gym but no machines and only light weights. 10 minute walk to international check in.

​The City Lodge at OR Tambo International Airport truly is the ideal, stress-free launching pad for any South African safari or holiday. We stayed for two nights before catching our connecting flight to Richards Bay, and the hotel was the perfect choice for settling in and adjusting to the time change. The unbeatable location—a short, safe, and covered walk right from the terminal—meant zero hassle with airport shuttles. ​We rated our stay excellent, primarily due to the comfort and surprising tranquility. We were genuinely surprised by the absence of jet noise; despite being directly connected to the terminal, the room was perfectly clean and blessedly quiet, offering the deep rest needed to shake off international jet lag. The quality of the queen bed and the great shower facilities are exactly what you need to refresh before starting a big adventure. ​The staff were professional, exceptionally friendly, and well-versed in assisting travelers with onward connections. Their efficiency made our quick check-in and check-out smooth. The breakfast was a great way to start the day, offering a plentiful buffet with hot and fresh options, ensuring we were well-fueled for the next leg of our journey. ​If you are flying into Johannesburg en route to the bush or a coastal destination and need a comfortable multi-night stay, the City Lodge is the most convenient, quiet, and reliable choice. It’s an essential part of a stress-free travel plan.

A sign to tell where the hair dryer is located is needed. Filtered drinking water in my room in the carafe would have been really nice. A sign telling me the number to call to reach reception would have been very nice. Instead, I had to leave my room and wander around to find a staff person to help with these. And a bedside light did not work and a maintenance person had to come and fix the situation. After a 4 hour flight followed by a 15 hour flight I was in no shape to have to deal with these issues.

House keeping needs to do a better job when it comes to cleaning coffee mugs which are in the room. The mugs which I found in the room had coffee stains on the mug from the previous guests who occupied the room.

Had a 17 hour layover in Johannesburg and this was such a great option! So convenient and connected to the airport and very clear signage to reach the hotel. I was also very impressed with the facilities, the rooms are so spacious and beds are so comfortable!

I usually get a day room at City Lodge Hotel on my way out of Joburg. I choose them because they typically have a good online rate for an overnight stay. The hotel is massive - you could easily walk 15 mins to your room if it is at the far end of the footprint. The staff is always lovely and my room and bathroom were very clean and updated this trip. They have also upgraded their hair dryers in the wing where I was. Since I was only there for a few hours, I was grateful they put me in a room that was close to reception. The room is basic and everything you need from a quick stay or day room.
