Kitchen House Middleburg

The Kitchen House was completed around 1786 during the time the fourth generation Simons, Sara Lydia, and her husband, Jonathan Lucas, Jr. owned the Middleburg property. The interior has been restored over the last decade, while the existing structure of the original house remains.

The Kitchen House was renovated to offer one bedroom, one bathroom, and a living room with space for up to four guests. The house features an adjoining outdoor cooking area and fire pit, providing an excellent place to cook your own meals or congregate. While the Kitchen House does not offer an indoor kitchen by modern standards, it does contain a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker for guest convenience.

Property was even better than we had hoped. Serene, meditative and steeped in history. We booked a weekend at one of the smaller units (not the big house). It was 15 min. to our trailhead destination. We were the only folks on site. I spent hours on the porches of the big house and sitting under the magnificent Live Oaks. My Merlin bird ID app must have found more than 30 different species. Recommend for nature lovers and quiet escapes. Exceeded expectations.
View from the front porch of the big house. Ms. Great Blue's fishing spot is just left of this.
Mown paths through the property bring different views. Here, abandoned rice fields.
Evening toward the river
I love this Live Oak.

Lovely rural historic stay

The Middleburg property is beautiful. The historic buildings are in great shape, and the Kitchen House has been beautifully renovated for a guest space. It was very comfortable for three adults. Bear in mind there is no true wall between the bedroom and living room- but no problem as long as you’re happy to be together! It was serene and charming. About an hour to Charleston proper.
