Slow Down in Paradise

The stay at Mrs. Doris' Ocean Pearl was wonderful. The cable was out in the room and the water went out the first day, but those were both beyond the hotel's control. Mrs. Doris was absolutely wonderful and was extremely accommodating. This is the perfect destination for those looking to get away from the world and slow down. Go visit Bishop next door and be sure to order the Crack Conch Dinner in the Ocean Peal kitchen.

The place we stayed was more of a motel than a resort. The phone in our room did not work. We had paid for the suite and were the only guests staying at the resort and were put in a non-suite. We had to show the owner our receipt but I felt as if they should have been more prepared. We were not initially provided with maid service and when I asked the owner why we had not received this service I was told that we had reportedly told someone that we did not want it- not true. We had asked staff for directions to the grocery store and were told to drive into town and ask someone. Not the most helpful response. The beach is beautiful but there were no chairs or umbrellas to shade you from the sun so we had to go into town and purchase our own. The food was very good but pricey- lunch cost $30. The volleyball net fell down and no one every picked it up. The shower ran only scalding. The owner did allow us to use the internet once free of charge but there are no discounts for visitors who stay at the resort. It seemed that they would have better business if they would lower their prices but it felt like we were being gouged in the pocket. If we didn't have a suite with a kitchen we would have been in trouble because of the cost of the food. If you stay there I recommend having your own vehicle so that you are able to move about. We loved the town though and the town people were really great. I would go back to High Rock but would not stay at this resort again.
