The Anchor Inn is a little scruffy from the outside but don't let that put you off as the welcome inside is warm and genuine. The barman was charming and the locals and fellow residents all engaged in conversation. It's the type of establishment where everyone talks to each other and the dogs are fed treats.
My room was clean and comfortable with a nice large walk-in shower with large pebbles on the bathroom floor which actually worked.
The food, whilst nice, needs a few minor improvements. My pork belly came swimming in gravy which was absorbed by the creamy mash potato. Put the gravy in a jug so that the dish can be enjoyed without being drowned.
Breakfast however was a disappointment and quite slow for someone staying on business. A single rasher of hard bacon that had all moisture removed without being crispy. The sausage was wet and flabby and no choice of egg.
Given my genuine criticism, I liked the Anchor Inn and would definitely stay again due to its friendliness.
I had 3 rooms booked for my colleagues and me for a business trip. The rooms were clean and nice however, we had some issues with the services received.
We called ahead to inform the hotel of our arrival, only to be told that they do not serve food on Wednesdays.
Later when we got to the hotel, we were informed that they will start breakfast until 8am. I travel frequently for work and have stayed in many hotels. Almost all start breakfast at 6:30, with latest being 7:00. We had to leave at 7:30 for a meeting so we had to leave without breakfast which was included in the price.
Additionally there was no phone signal in the hotel due to location and the wifi was also down so we could hardly do any work or even make calls.
Great value stay, with really good quality food, drink and accommodation in a very good location to explore the surrounding area.

Unfortunately our bed broke, it had clearly been repaired previously- they moved us to another room which was fine.
There were a lot of cigarette butts in the ashtrays on the picnic tables ( need emptying more regularly) also dog excrement in the car park!
Pleasant staff, peaceful environment.
Great food. lovely bar & restaurant. Breakfast good as well. Room was spot on. clean etc. I stay away a lot & i have been in some dodgy places. I will be back here, put it that way.

Fine for the money paid
Parking outside the room was great, but the condition of these outside rooms is not the best. It was bitterly cold when I arrived and the heating was set to low which is understandable, but it took a VERY long time for the tiny fan heater to warm the room. The central heating radiators were not working. Neither was the wifi which was really frustrating
Great stay, not really too sure why people have left negative feedback for this place ? I can only imagine they have Rolls Royce taste & Skoda budgets as the saying goes ? Im a sales rep so i stay away quite a bit. yes this place isnt the most luxurious - but look at what you pay. It ticked all the boxes for me. & i stay away quite a bit. Yes the bar area is small ish, but that to me is an appeal. They have a larger restaurant area if that's better suited ? It was a cosy pub atmosphere. The food was very good.
A last minute overnight stay. Had a fantastic room, so big, staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Great value. Fabulous breakfast. Quiet, family games to play, plenty of sockets for charging. Lovely, reasonable meal in the restaurant. Would recommend
We had a great stay dog friendly staff great everything we needed to hand.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Rooms very small. Bed uncomfortable. Outside of property needs tlc. Cobweb's everywhere and generally untidy. Staff were very nice. Breakfast very nice. Very basic but still good value for money
This was a very relaxing stay in a genuinely picturesque setting. Despite being a pub, it was quiet and I was never disturbed by noise.
Only downside was I had difficulty getting WiFi in my room but was able to get it in the main section of the pub.
Thank you for the caring hospitality.
Made us feel well welcome but from there being no hot water to have a shower with upon arrival after a 6 hour journey, to not even being able to use the bath/ shower due to the fitting fixtures being broken or missing.
Breakfast was Great i will give them that.
Was rather distressful overall was not the greatest experience and the place could do with a clean up externally as is very run down.
The guy on site was clearly not supported by management due to lack of staff which is not his thought.
I Blame the management for not supporting him and not maintaining their property and surrounding ground.
DO NOT EXPECT ONE GUY TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS WITHOUT SUPPORT!!
Very enjoyable stay, staff were friendly and helpful. The evening meal was excellent and the breakfast great.
The location was excellent to explore Dartmoor.
Would recommend and visit again.
The staff were really friendly, the room was lovely and the breakfast was great

Average accommodation without any luxuries.
Staff friendly and helpful. Room looked good on arrival but unfortunately not as comfortable as it looked and lacked any luxury touches. Mattress on the bed very saggy on both sides and raised in the middle, towels thin and worn, very basic tea and coffee in rooms. Bathroom fittings incomplete or missing. Breakfast “buffet” consisted of few cereas, potted yoghurts and fruit juice. Cooked food in evening and cooked breakfast satisfactory.
Our stay was good, the room was perfectly fine, clean and tidy. Had several areas of cosmetic damage that could be sorted out but otherwise all good.
The breakfast was nice but the actual pub is tiny. Hardly anywhere to sit, more like the size of a living room. The restaurant is much bigger. The people were very friendly though. Dog friendly too.
