The house and location were perfect for our family. It was great to have the kitchen, living room, and four of the bedrooms on the same level. We have two young granddaughters, and this setup was ideal for our family. Check-in was easy and smooth. All amenities were there for us. There are numerous dishes, pots, pans, and more in the kitchen. We were able to feed our entire family without worrying about not having the right dishes or enough plates, glasses, or silverware. We would love to rent this house again!

Wonderful place! Great access to the beach! It was a nice and quiet beach stretch. Also loved watching the neighbors do the most wonderful fireworks display for the 4th. Best feature is a bathroom with every room! It’s a lovely and cozy home. You feel at home there. It’s definitely a little humid and musty downstairs but the dehumidifier helps a lot with that. Overall would definitely stay here again!

I cannot say enough good things about Howard’s Hideway. The house was a perfect setup for our family. Every bedroom has its own bath and the bedrooms are larger than the pictures depicted (at least I thought so). The kitchen was fully equipped with all that we needed to cook all meals at the house. Location was perfect—we could bike anywhere and could walk to the local ice cream store. The deck was so nice—it had a lot of shade and we spent several evenings on the deck visiting with family that we haven’t seen in a long time. There were also several chairs on the deck for everyone to sit in. Finally the view and beach access will be hard to beat in a future Emerald Isle vacation. Thank you from all members of our family from the little ones to the grandparents!!

Great ocean front cottage

Perfect for family beach reunion week. The Colvards have gathered here over the last Thirty-plus years to the fourth generation . Furnishings are more than adequate without being luxurious.

Wonderful Family Traditions Begin Here

Howard’s Hideaway exemplifies the saying, “Location, location, location.” We have been going to the beach for years, staying at VRBO rentals all around the Emerald Isle area. This home, far and away, was the best in terms of house layout (multiple floors, separate entrance for lower level), five separate bathrooms, plenty of seating in the living area, the game room, and the deck. It’s made for family gatherings and creating memories. Favorite parts: being able to go out on the beach just to hand over more sunscreen for the kids and the grown ups on duty and then just strolling back to relax on the deck and watch them play; grilling out and watching the waves and the sun set; early morning walks to the pier; sitting on the deck watching a brief storm come in and listening to the rain. Finally, on our last day, watching a family of dolphins leap in the ocean while we enjoyed breakfast on the deck. Our family left (with tears from the five year olds) with every intention of making this a yearly tradition.

Absolutely loved our weekend getaway on Emerald Isle! The home was spotless, comfortable, and perfectly located—just steps from the beach. All the thoughtful touches and supplies made everything easy and stress-free. Perfect Family House

As a family we have been traveling to Emerald Isle for 35 years and this is our favorite house! The openness and the views are unbeatable. Each bedroom is well sized and having en-suite bathrooms is wonderful! The lower level gives families a ton of elbow room and a huge bonus is the large private bedroom with ocean views and private entrance. This place is a true family home!

Great beach house

A wonderful beach front home enjoyed by all of my family. It housed all 14 of us very well. Since we eat all our meals in, we felt the kitchen was well equipped. It has a wonderful deck which we enjoyed sitting outside to watch the ocean & beautiful sunsets. Access to the beach was easy. I would recommend this house to everyone with a large family.

Perfect Location

The house is perfectly located on the beach, away from busy public access, so there was always a nice wide open area available. The back deck is partilaly covered and had comfortable rockers and a picnic table. Great for the less mobile grandparents to soak in the "beach." Kitchen had every possible cooking tool/appliance you need. Nice that each bedroom has its own bathroom. The house is not fancy/updated but was very comfortable and worked well for our family. We were pleased to note it is a bit bigger than the photos suggest. I would vote for softer/nicer bed linens (or bring your own) and changing out living room carpet that must be impossible to keep clean. We would return because of the location and house layout, but don't expect fancy for the price you are paying. Its the beach view... and its a good one. Thank you!

We knew the house hasn’t been updated when we booked, but that didn’t deter us. The amount of space was perfect for our family, and being very close to the beach was important to us. We would defy stay at Howard’s Hideaway again!
