About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire apartment to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Charming East Dorset Getaway
This house is situated in the town where the Battenkill River forms. With its spectacular backdrop, the Battenkill is one of Vermont's best known rivers.
Our house has historic significance as the town's first General store. House provides a beautiful setting in this quaint town as we are surrounded by spectacular views of the Taconic and Green Mountains.
This old house has been recently renovated and lies directly across the street from the renowned Wilson House. In our home you will find informative pictures (photos taken in the late 1800's and early 1900's) and documents (i.e. original blue prints, store ledgers) that enlighten guests to the building's notable past.
Adding to the charm and authenticity/history of the General Store ‐ which at one time had its own train stop ‐ there will be the occasional train (Vermont Rail) coming through town a couple times a day.
Other things to note:
John will greet you with a warm welcome upon arrival; provide you with a space overview, discuss the area and local events, furnish you with a key, local maps and applicable literature for your stay.
East Dorset is a charming, quiet and old fashioned town that lends itself to hiking, biking, fishing, skiing or just plain relaxing. This pretty venue is sandwiched between the Taconic and Green Mountains and so offers impressive views.
The East Dorset General Store is just steps away from the house for snacks and supplies. Retail outlets, a variety of restaurants and serious theater are less than 10 minutes away. Bromley and Stratton ski resorts are in close proximity by just 20 and 30 minutes respectively from our location.
Lisa access
123Access to the space is provided via a separate anteroom with a stairway leading to the second floor.
Interaction with guests:
Host resides in adjacent building and so is generally available to attend to any matters.
Other things to consider:
Noteworthy venues include: Vermont Summer Festival Horse Show; the Southern VT Arts Center; Hildene (The Lincoln Family Home); numerous shopping outlets (Orvis, Vermont Country Store etc.) and excellent restaurants; Bromley and Stratton Mountain Ski Resorts. Also this municipality hosts the Dorset Theater Playhouse the Dorset Quarry (picnicking and swimming), and many historic inns. The venue also is easy access to acclaimed farmers markets including Dorset, Manchester and Weston.
The local highways provide quick access to other ski venues in the area. Our location is a mere 1 1/4 hours from Albany or Saratoga.
This fine East Dorset home includes:
Cable TV and WiFi
Kitchen equipped with flatware, dishware and cookware
Bathroom with shower only
All linens and towels provided
Interaction with host is at our guest's discretion.
East Dorset is home to a number of venues that include the Wilson House, The VT Horseshow grounds (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The Battenkill River rises here in East Dorset with feeding tributary streams in the area.
There are trails (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) in the immediate (and walkable) area.
Both Route 7A and Hiway 7 are conveniently accessed from this area. Historic Mad Tom Road takes you on a lovely scenic drive passing orchards, blueberry farms and otherwise beautiful local scenery.
However, you can also catch the locally run bus/vans that run between Rutland and Bennington. These vehicles stop at the East Dorset General Store.
There is a washer and dryer on site.
