We liked the layout of the property and we stayed in Building 18. We liked the fact that there are "specialty restaurants" with sit down seating but the food was just okay. Sometimes the buffet dinner was better. We did not like that the scuba shop wanted to charge us $5 per person per day, just for a boat to come pick us up to go scuba dive every day. We felt that was odd since we were guest at the hotel. It would also be nice to get a print out of the weeks buffet theme and evening entertainment, so we could plan our week. We did upgrade to the specialty check in level but was unimpressed with Daniella's personality and charm. I never got my beach towel cards, and she never mentioned booking the specialty restaurants had to be booked with her. Everyone else was wonderful & helpful

Worst experience of my life. I would definitely avoid this place at all costs. My minor children were harassed by the managers and accused of breaking a door that they did not break, and held us hostage over some pretense when we were trying to check out and get to the airport. Everything on the property was broken, including cabanas. The walkway to the beach and there were wild animals running through an unsanitary conditions in the buffet. Most of the beach here is gone from hurricane damage and what's left is not very desirable. I've had friends stay at other resorts on the island, including the westins which provide much better value. Definitely avoid this "resort". It definitely a last resort.

Clean rooms .. friendly staff .. there were some difficulties with accommodations for dining options based on the availability to make reservations.. maybe the person handled that was gone for the day or something .. but, it should’ve been a simple task. Overall a good experience. I would go here again.

It was a beautiful property easily walkable with lots of amenities. The Coati's were a lil bit nuisance. The ice machine in my building didnt work so that was a hassle 🙃 but all & all it was a great experience!

We stayed at the Occidental for a short gateway. We had 1 room with 2 double beds, non smoking room and was big enough for the 3 of us to share. Bathroom had shower and a tub and overall the room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were always various, rich of fresh and tasty fruits, fresh veggies and a great selection between meat and fish. We had dinner once at the mexican restaurant and to be honest we were expecting a bit more in term of quantity. From the apetizer to the desser overall the food was good but quantities can be improved. The seafood restaurant, in my opinion, was the best. Location and food are really worth it but, if you're planning a romantic dinner or celebrating a special occasion this is the perfect spot, make your reservation on time and enjoy it. The pool area was wonderful even though I prefered enjoying the beach and the wonderful ocean. You can snorkeling from here and it is nice but if you like to see the reef you can book an excursion from the hotel. Cozumel and the Occidental was a discovery, really nice location, not to crowded and noisy, this is what I'm usually looking for.

I enjoyed my stay here overall. Its a smaller resort with not a lot going on so if relaxation is what you are looking for this place is it. I did not use the spa or go on any excursions this trip. The beach is nice, however the pictures are not updated from erosion due to mother nature. The main pool was large with a smaller pool attached for little kids.

My Husband and I came here for 6 nights and 7 days. It was a beautiful property and we enjoyed our room with a balcony over looking the jungle. We loved seeing all the animals around the resort! Buffett food was mediocre, but the Al la carte Olivios was our favorite. We never got to try the seafood al la carte, but heard many good things about it. Staff was friendly and helpful. We got to Snorkel on the beach when the winds changed and the water cleared up a lot. There was many fish to look at right off the beach! We even saw a HUGE (I swear 5 foot long) barracuda!! There were many chairs to choose from down by the pool/beach, but we never had a chance to sit by the Adult pool because people always claimed those chairs and beds with towels early in the morning. I wish the bars had drink menus to look at and see what to order because we didn't know what to get and didn't know what options we even had. The staff had many different activities planned throughout the day. It was very easy and efficient to get a taxi to go into town. The taxi would arrive within 3 minutes. The grounds area / property was well kept clean and beautiful. We loved all the plants and having the jungle and then the short easy walk to the ocean side of it the resort. Overall a great trip and we loved every day we spent there!

Didn’t know it was on an island where you need to pay 650 mxn peso but we got hustled and payed 1000 peso. Just make sure you don’t go to the guys standing on the street. I would have avoided going there knowing it was on an island since I was not trying to pay these extra fees.
