This property is breathtaking and the wildlife that surrounds it is very captivating! RIU never disappoints! Mutiple dining options, plenty of activities and excursions galore! I can't wait to go back. ALSO, make sure to fly into Liberia Airport if this is your destination because any other airport is more than an hour away!

The hotel wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best either. I would rate it a 5/10. The reviews said that renovations were made but it looks as if they haven’t been done yet. Being that it looks so outdated it kind of made me feel uncomfortable as if the place wasn’t clean. The food was not the best and not much variety. I only looked forward to eating breakfast. This place reminds me of a carnival cruise. More emphasis is being put on the outside upkeeing than the inside

1. I saw two roaches in my room. 2. The pool area closed down at sunset around 530pm. 3. The restaurants were portioning out the food especially the steak house. 4. The staff, mainly one woman, very rude and nasty at the Japanese restaurant who was hosting.

Room house keeping was poor, had to keep asking for towels. Could not get into any specialty restaurants, the lines were very long and when we finally got up to get into the restaurant they told us no more service for today, the problem was it was only 6:30pm, their suppose to be open until 8:00pm, this was the steak house and the Asia restaurants. The room was in very poor condition, would not recommend this place to anyone

This property is in need of a full renovation and was unfit for healthy occupancy. We left after 1 day due to the overwhelming urine and mold smell in our room. The telephone didn’t work and neither did the coffee maker. We didn’t stay long enough to get in the disgusting looking empty hot tub or bath. The food was inedible. Only good for a fasting diet. The staff was lovely which is probably why the resort remains open to employee these wonderful people but this was not fit for an RIU Palace or anyone who thinks they know what that means.

This was my first time in Costa Rica and at The Riu Palace. I was very happy with my stay here, everything exceeded my expectations! The staff was very welcoming and friendly, Shout out to the wait staff/entertainment Josi, Anderson, Isac, and Max! This crew really was Phenomenal!!! They made us feel like family. The food was delicious and had such a wide variety of options, the rooms were super clean and spacious. Overall I give this resort 10/10, will definitely return with my family. Pura Vida!!

This is not a 5 star hotel as advertised. We had booked 2 rooms for 4 nights. We found the rooms to be in poor upkeep, with musty smell. The fridge wasn't working. They didn't have a duvet cover, just a bed sheet. One of the most awful hotels we have ever stayed at. One of my daughters started having ashma attacks likely due to mould in the room. We talked to Kevin at the front desk. We asked to check out and get a refund for our rooms. He said they could check out out the next day and get a refund for the remaining 3 nights. We agreed. The next morning, we went down with our luggage ready to check out. We talked to Kevin who had to refer our situation to the Head of front desk Melissa. Unfortunately, she was vague about getting a refund. She checked us out and said she would send a note to "administration." Long story short, we had book another hotel at an additional expense for 3 nights for 2 rooms. We have tried contacting Melissa, but it appears she has ghosted us (in a meeting everytime we call or our call misteriously gets dropped while we are on hold). We have stayed at various categories of hotels over the years (ultra luxury to clean hostels). This one falls below many European hostels. Negative stars, not 5 stars. I am surprised RIU global allows this resort to continue to operate. It harms their global brand. I think this particular resort could potentially be a prime candidate for a class action law suit. I would avoid this hotel.

Staff was wonderful. Had daily issues with our room card readers. Food was better than we were expecting. The lack of restrooms was disturbing in the pool area. Room A/C worked great (almost too cold). Communication with the hotel prior to arrival was poor. Could not get answers to questions (took 3-4 days to get a response). Dealing with Expedia was a nightmare. Non english speakers. Had 3 agents try to cancel our reservation when I was only asking to have connecting rooms. Will not use them again!!
