Wonderful place!
Amazing stay! we stop every year at this marvelous place! super calm, clean! you sleep very well and the city is an attraction with its relaxing river and Spanish style of living!
Quirky and interesting with a great location . Breakfast location was great. Parking in the town was a bit of a challenge at times but ok if you don't mind a walk.
It’s such a unique place to stay, really fun if passing through the area. Unfortunately no facilities to get ice when we asked, but the breakfast was fine and the welcome warm.
Friendly check-in, helpful.
Room with spa bathtub. Loud when neighbour used theirs.
Breakfast order not what we preordered, but it was fine and breakfast hostess was very helpful.

Mixed feelings
The place is picturesque, no doubt. But! The room was exceptionally small, all the plumbing was leaking in every direction and beds were squeaky. The lady who checked us in was friendly. The breakfast was a bit odd, but i can attribute it to the COVID precaution. What wasn't right is the price for the quality of the accommodation you get - the amenities are in dare need of fixing, until the price must be lowered.
This hotel is located in a former monastery and on beautiful grounds in a very small village. The only dining option is the bodega (10 min walk away) so if they are not open, eat somewhere else or visit the local grocery store and pick up items for a hotel picnic, as we did. The breakfast provided many options of fresh baked goods and fruit. The entire place is like a mini-castle and was fun to explore. Also, brush up on your Spanish!
Lovely location. Stunning building and particularly the breakfast room. The bedrooms are in keeping with the old theme but with some modern twists such as massive spa bath. Air conditioning a little tired so tough when really hot but overall a lovely stay.
Very rustic! Probably the most unique room we stayed in our entire trip!
FYI beware of the Oasis restaurant! My girlfriend got food poisoning from that restaurant!
Hotel was awesome!
A small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The location next to the river and a monastery makes it very quiet and peaceful with none of the street noise so common in many larger city hotels. There is free parking in front of the hotel. .
The Hotel was originally built as a Hospital for the wounded of a 16th Century Civil War. It is an annexe to a beautiful Monastery adjacent and the Hotel looks out onto this quiet square (on a practical note, you can park there!). It has been refurbished keeping much of the character of the original building. The breakfast room has a water leat running through it, and huge wine barrels are hoisted above you...The walls throughout have been decorated with charming and quirky murals of knights and ladies, and the bedrooms have stencilled wall decorations. Sitting in the stone window seats you can easily imagine yourself back in another age. It is wonderful.
There is no evening restaurant, but the receptionist recommended the Bar Oasis, on the outskirts of the town. This is a cafeteria with no pretension, but we really enjoyed personal service from the owner, who took us into the kitchen for us to choose our own suppers, and we put the world to rights over bottles of local Rioja for a couple of evenings!
It's hard to compare this hotel to anything else: you're staying in a medieval monastery! The thick stone walls, the running stream in the basement where you eat breakfast, the paintings in the walls... There's no other hotel like it for atmosphere. We would come all the way again just for this amazing place!

A very special historic site with modern amenities
It was very cold during our stay in Rioja, and this being an old stone monastery was difficult to heat up. The rooms were very nicely done up, perfectly blending in the modern facilities with the historical atmosphere. Some people might be used to the amenities of modern hotels and find this rather out-dated, but it offers a unique character that most other hotels lack.
