We chose this location because it was a good middle ground between Downtown Charleston and Folly Beach. Unfortunately the rooms were all filled with MOLD. I requested a room change after seeing the entire ceiling covered in mold, they put me in a different room.. same issue. The third room looked like they scraped the mold off the ceiling and tried to paint over it. Initially I was going to deal with it, then I opened the closet and realized they completely missed that ceiling and it was the worst of all the rooms I'd seen yet. I requested they move me to the 'newer' building in hopes it was recently updated and less of a black mold issue, they said they would need to charge me extra for that part of the hotel. I eventually got them to understand that it's not my issue the other building was a health hazard. Unfortunately... even the newer building also had mold. So if you can afford a little extra $ for literally any other hotel, I would avoid La Quinta. (PS: there was also an issue with a lot of police and homeland security at the front of the hotel, not sure what was going on but we tried to stay clear of whatever was happening)

Convenient to James Island Lamp shade was covered in mold. All metal surfaces were rusty. Door was difficult to open. Molding was torn off. Stairwell and walkway to room was full of trash and needed to be swept and pressure washed off. Exterior needed to be painted. General unclean smell in room.

Maybe not all units are the same, but the one I got was terrible. The entry door was with the paint peeling off and in a terrible shape. It wasn't even closing properly and was on the backside of the building, facing the highway with its noise. There was also a bad smell in the room. There are two buildings. The one with the reception looks better. The second is all in bad shape and especially the units facing the back of the building. Never go there!

We were placed in a second building overlooking the freeway. There were two big bags full of cement in the corridor the whole time we were there. Things in the room were rusty. It was not walkable to downtown Charleston. Only one restaurant in the area.

I like the location and the customer service representative who checked us in was very kind. What I didn't like the room was very dusty, the ceiling in bathroom is coming down, the carpet is stained under the mirror, brownstains on sheets, TV unplugged, phone doesn't work and toilet very slow to flush. Upon arrival of the hotel I noticed that the trash was overflowing at 12:00 in the afternoon I also noticed that it was dirty My hair dryer caught on fire The fire alarm was not working properly they charged me $10 for parking. And many other things that just were not right with this place.

I didn't know when I booked this hotel was pet friendly and dogs would be everywhere. I don't like dogs and other guests don't realize when you say I don't want your dog near me they just let them run up on you. He doesn't bite. Just because he don't bite you don't mean he won't bite me. I will always read the pet policy. But thanks for the stay I won't be back.

Poo-poo show on steroids

I have traveled the world thanks to the US Air Force and stayed in 5-star hotels to tents in some Godforsaken desert in strange countries. The tents I stayed in had less bugs!! This hotel is pet friendly and it was evident by the fleas in our first room. I asked for another room and the guy just kept asking what knid of bugs and how many. There was enough to make the white blanket look like pepper was spread over it. This was on top of the toilet leaking at the base. Their fix was to put a towel around the bowl. AND I was told to take the wet towel to the front desk each day for a dry one. Let's not forget the wall light that arced and sparked when I tried to turn it on. I would by-pass this flea hotel and pitch a tent on the beach.
