Reservation IGNORED & attempted OVERCHARGING

Horrible experience. Sadly Casa Mara still is offering accomodation over the web that is not availbale when you arrive. (see older feedback of other - rejected - guests) THough having a confirmed booking - Casa Mara had no room available. Furthermore the lady at the reception was very rude and pretended she couldn´t speak english - though she spoke perfectly with others. Spoke very loud with me - though I stayed polite all the time and kept me waiting for 1 1/2 hours. Even worse: When the owner arrived, she "offered" me to stay in different, "private" hostal of a far lower Standard - while I should still pay the high original Casa Mara price. This is a totally inexceptable scandal. Trying to cash in from customers - on OWN mistakes. People with such a mindset don´t belong in the hospitality Business and deserve not to be supported.

Super friendly

I had a lovely stay at Casa Mara, the staff were super friendly and very welcoming. My room was very clean and had hot water, cable tv, aircon and fan, it was cleaned daily. Breakfast choices were freshly prepared and served promptly. The pool is small but great though it could probably do with being cleaned a bit more often. the hotel is in a great location, easy walk to restaurants and tourist sights. I would highly recommend Casa Mara.

Well-situated and reasonably priced

This hotel is in the old part of the city, just a short walk to the city walls. It is convenient for services, and the staff is most attentive.

We liked Casa Mara very much. Clean and cosy. Short walk to the colonial centre. Quiet during the night and large choice of restaurants around. We would go back to Casa Mara.

Bait & Switch

We booked this hotel about 10AM on a Sunday morning from Bogota (admittedly, this was last-minute). Wary of the bait & switch tactics some other reviews had mentioned, we sent an email directly to the hotel to confirm booking. Upon arrival at 8:00PM, they told us that they didn't have our booking or our email and that they could move us to one of their other (lesser) hotels down the road (for the same price, mind you!). Upon our insistence, we saw that the email was indeed there. Thier reply was that they don't check emails on Sundays. Really? Come off it. I would only stay here if you get written confirmation that they have your booking. Otherwise the place looked nice, neighbourhood is very colourful.

Not at all what I envisioned. If you want a bed this is it. No place to put suitcases to unpack- not even a chair. bathroom shower missing a water handle- only cold water available. open slats on room door. pool was tiny-smaller than a lap pool. what the hoopla is with this hotel is it is in close proximity to the old colonial district. i checked out after one night.

Small Hotel with Swimming Pool

It's clean, reasonably price, well staffed and well located. And it has a swimming pool. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Cartagena and I've stayed here five times - that says it all.

Quaint and Enjoyable

I enjoyed my stay here. It's name bellies the fact that it is more of a hotel than hostel with individualized rooms with private bathrooms with showers. The hotel as a very cute faux-Moorish architectural design with a nice little pool in the middle and arm chairs, where guests can lounge around to read books or chat with their friends thanks to the good Wifi connection. The rooms are simple but comfortable with well-functioning TVs with an assortment of Spanish-language and English channels. The shower didn't have boiling hot water but with the 33 Celsius weather, its warm-ish water does the trick. The staff is very nice, young, multiracial and friendly, willing to help you with any of your needs, including doing laundry for you without you even having to ask! I chose to spend three days here and three days at a relatively nearby luxury boutique hotel. While I thoroughly enjoyed the boutique hotel, I also had a great time here. By Cartagena standards, this place provides good value for the price.

Nice hotel

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel was close to the walled city. The rooms were clean but the bathroom was tiny. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We could have used a blanket as you had to have the A/C on and it got cold. If you turned the A/C off it was too hot. We would still stay there again.

Loved it except there's no hot water and the last day there was no water at all. The neighborhood is great for hipsters. A little like the lower east side in New York.

Small and simple

Small and simple. Dont expect luxury, but is pleasent enough for a room to sleep when you are out exploring the (wonderful) city of Cartagena. Convient walk to all the old town and neighbourhood is safe. Only issue was water, shower pressure was low in daytime, but have a small pool to refresh after a long day walking around the old town (which can take you several days if you like wandering old streets with stunning old style buildings)

Quiet and pleasant

The firt thing I look for is a quiet hotel. I got a great place on the top floor, where there is only one room, which is like a mini penthouse. I slept like a baby every day, and stayed 7 nights. The staff is very polite and kind. The room was very clean. Casa Mara is at a walking distance from the Old City, so it is convenient. Lots of restaurants near the hotel. No hot water, but it is not necessary because the weather is always very hot.

Lovely setting, but a few annoyances.

The hotel has a lovely setting, with the pool and the greenery, and the staff are really helpful. However, I think the rooms are more basic then you´d expect, and could do with some updating. Mine inparticular (no. 9) had a few annoyances, e.g. it has vents bult into the rear wall which aren´t screened with mesh, so on the first night I was bitten relentlessly by mosquitoes. It also backs onto a school/workyard area which is very noisy from 6 a.m. every morning - and because of the vents there is nothing to prevent the noise carrying. I also had to ask for a towel, which hadn´t been replaced, and my nightwear went missing one evening (presumably taken by the cleaning staff) and I had to ask the nightwatchman to search for it in the laundry! So, a few minor annoyances, but a lovely place and well located.

Upmarket hotel

Big clean room, very comfortable bed. Only downsides were no hot water (lukewarm only) and if you are a light sleeper then ask for a room away from the slightly noisy street. Otherwise perfect.

Prima hotel!

Net hotel, behulpzaam personeel, goed verzorgd! Zeer schone kamers, prima douche en een goed werkende airco. De grote dak terrassen zijn erg leuk om een borrel te drinken en uit te kijken over Cartagena!
