River Stone - Family getaway on the Clyde River with a difference.

The River Stone Cottage is one of six original timber workers houses to have been restored in the Old Saw Mill Town at Brooman. Both bedrooms have a king sized bed, ceiling fans and landscape views. There is a true north wood fireplace installed in the living room side of the original double chimney, with a gas cook top and exhaust in the kitchen side of the chimney. The building is made of all local timber throughout including original floorboards, weatherboards and Coachwood architraves. The wall feature above the main fireplace includes pieces of all the local timber species used in the original (and restored) construction. The kitchen features a double sink set in Spotted Gum slab top and open plan dining space. The adjoining lounge room has plenty of space to read, relax and absorb the surrounds. The corner couch can double as two single beds (you just need a sleeping bag). There is also an additional day bed on the front porch from which you can see the stars. River Stone House has a separate external bathroom which comes off the back (main access) porch and features a large river rock and tiled shower with Coachwood vanity, sink and toilet. The property is completely off grid and features a central solar system and underground 240V power. Water is collected from the pristine rain, collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks. Hot water is provided by instantaneous gas water heater located on the outside of the building. The old town site is set opposite a large bend in the Clyde River. Deep water extends from the bend nearly kilometre upstream. It is a great place for canoeing, fishing for Bass, Platypus watching or simply listening to the dozens of unique and beautiful endemic bird species of this area. The buildings date back to the late 1800’s to early 1900’s and once supported a thriving community of up to 200 people employed in the timber mill. Brooman had a post office, school, dance hall, mechanics building, galley, general store, phone exchange and cottages like the River Stone for the saw mill workers and their families.
Make yourself comfortable in this cottage, which has a kitchen.
This cottage features designated smoking areas and canoeing nearby.

Nice weekender with family.

Nice cottages done up well to suit variety of price points. All essentials covered and everything could be made to work. Seal on fireplace door broken off but had an ember screen and still shut. No smoke even with door open surprisingly. 2/3 gas burners on stove working. Cushions, blankets appear quite clean. General finish rustic but charming. River access not particularly obvious or easy. Quite a bit of small bird or rodent poop on daybed backdeck and a whopper of an ibis or pelican size poop over back deck table and chair. But we didn't use this area accordingly. Could happen real quick out in the bush. Overall nice, clean inside with fresh bush cut flowers throught. Cleaning fee may be a bit much given the situation. Wifi was sufficient.

A really beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting which made it easy to relax and forget the real world for a moment. Very minimal phone reception which was good to be able to ‘unplug’ and connect with the family. We would have loved to have been told there was access to the river before arriving however, as we would have brought our kayaks for something to do. As there are more cottages and buildings being done up I can see this would be a wonderful choice for a wedding venue or extended family gathering, though the sound of power tools was not really welcomed for our morning wake up call, we appreciated that the work needed to be done.

A Comfortable Stay in Brooman

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Riverstone in Brooman. The house was good size for our family with two children, the beds were comfortable. The location was beautiful, with plenty of natural beauty to explore. The house itself was clean and tidy. The bathroom was spacious with hot shower. Matt and Trish were friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone seeking a comfortable and relaxing getaway in Brooman.
