Quiet Oceanfront Cottage with Dock
Escape to a charming 100-year-old seaside cottage in Maine—perfect for couples or family gatherings. Just 5 minutes from Boothbay Harbor, enjoy shops and dining by day, and peaceful, starlit nights by the water. Watch seals and loons from the porch, swim or kayak from the shared dock, and sleep to the sound of the tides.
Generations have made summer memories here with its 3 bedrooms, loft with 6 beds, and 2 full baths. Kayaks and life vests provided. Pets by request and mooring rental available.
The space
First, a note on Maine cottages. This is an authentic Maine summer cottage: simple, rustic, and full of character. There is no air conditioning, and Maine summers have been increasingly hot, so please be aware that there are only fans and open windows to keep you cool. Thin walls mean sound travels, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs or eye masks. Even so, we love our cozy, all-wood structure, and most guests do too.
Second, a note on the dock. The dock is a deep-water dock that is shared with our neighbors, who are also our cousins. Please be courteous. Third, a note on the property. Our property is a fenceless waterfront lot about half an acre from the road and next to a wooded area. Please be careful, and we ask that you always keep an eye on your children and pets. Please read our Pet Rules.
With those notes out of the way, we cannot wait to share our summer home with you. This charming 100-year-old seaside cottage in Maine was built by our great-great-grandparents and has changed very little since it was built.
The cottage is cozy and quiet but not as isolated as it seems. It is just five minutes from the town of Boothbay Harbor, where you can enjoy chartered boat rides, ferries to Squirrel Island and Monhegan Island, and whale watching, puffin spotting, and seal tours depending on the time of the season. A short drive brings you to our botanical gardens, some of the best ice cream in the country, mini-golf, and fun flea markets and swap meets.
A longer drive will take you to some of the best day hikes in the Northeast and oyster farms where you can learn to shuck and dine on fresh oysters. There is even a sailing school for kids and new sailors. Our guestbook will give you all of our recommendations, and if you find something we should add, please tell us.
Of course, our favorite things to do are right at the cottage itself. For me, nothing is better than a morning cup of coffee on the porch as the sun comes up. My brother starts every day with a swim, while my other brother prefers long kayak rides into town and back. My sister and dad are usually fishing or reading on the dock, while mom writes on the porch, watching the loons dive for food. Lunches are eaten on the porch or the rocks, and the long dining room table is always full of food at night. We do have a TV and high-speed internet, but bonus points if you can stay away from screens during your vacation.
The cottage has bedding, towels, beach towels, a full kitchen, kayaks, life vests, binoculars, and plenty of puzzles and board games. We also provide wood for the fireplace if the Maine fog and chill roll in. If you think we are missing something, please reach out so we can either provide it for you or for the next guests. If you are a boater, ask us about the mooring so you can park right next to the dock.
Guest access
Unfortunately, our cottage is not generally accessible for those in wheel chairs or that have significant difficulty walking. Cars are parked at the top of a hill and guests have to walk themselves and their luggage down a path (2 minute walk) to the cottage.
Check-in is anytime after 3pm and check-out is promptly at 11am in order to allow our house-cleaner time to turn around and have the cottage ready for the next guest. The dock is shared with our neighbors and cousins (the two houses at the top of the hill), which means you may have the occasional person walk by the cottage. Please read our pet policy for the implication on your furry family members. The cottage has outdoor security cameras that monitor all entrances and exits 24/7. There are no cameras inside. Professional shoots are permitted on a case-by-case basis. Please let us know the details when you are booking.
