John and Marian invite you to rent this 300 year old farm property 'Chestnut Cottage' which is located on the McDonald farm in Lusmagh, Banagher, Co. Offaly only 1 km from the Shannon River. This property is Bord Failte (Irish Tourist Board) approved. It has been the original home of the McDonald family for generations. The Chestnut Cottage has been carefully restored, keeping as much of the house's 'Old World' character as possible while adding all modern comforts. It is located near the main farm, in a beautiful farm garden with an orchard.

The Chestnut Cottage is in the Galway / Offaly area, three miles from the popular river town of Banagher in Co. Offaly. The large bridge across the Shannon County Galway River opens the way to visiting the West of Ireland. Banagher is famous for its Irish music pubs, river cruises, Bog walks and rail hikes, great fishing, (pike fishing is especially rewarding), excellent super markets and shops, restaurants and hotels. Most pubs serve really good food too.

Lovely hostess in the beautiful countryside
The hostess, Marian, was incredibly attentive and helpful. We will miss her company! A wonderful local guide, we couldn’t recommend her cottage more. Thank you, Marian!

Rural property near Banagher was ideal for our family with 21 month twin girls.
If you like quiet country life style accommodation, then this an ideal place.. The hosts Marian and John are friendly snd kind hosts. The young children loved the cattle, tractors and the colorful beautiful flower garden.

Überwältigend
Herzlicher Empfang obwohl wir kein englisch können.
Frische Blumen auf dem Tisch, selbstgebackener Kuchen,
( himmlich lecker ! ) Butter und Milch im Kühlschrank. Fussbodenheizung im Bad mit begehbarer Dusche, sowie,
im Licht durchfluteten Wohn-Esszimmer war eingeschaltet.
Traumhaft die Blumenpracht um das ganze Haus, ein richtiger Bauerngarten. Hier könnten sogar Rollstuhlfahrer wohnen. ( einige Stufen sind durch Schrägen ersetzt ) Wir haben die Welt gesehen, ganz Europa, Afrika von Oben bis Madagaskar, Asien über Nepal und Tibet bis China und Amerika von Canada über Jamaika und Cuba bis Patagonien und Feuerland.
Bei Marian und John fühlten wir uns zu Hause.

Schönes, renoviertes Cottage, in ruhiger Lage
Sehr schönes, geräumiges Cottage in ruhiger, ländlicher Lage.
Es war frisch renoviert und alles war sehr sauber.
Es ist alles was man braucht vorhanden; Wasserkocher, Kaffeemaschine, Toaster, Mikrowelle, Geschirrspüler, Kühlschrank, Herd mit Backofen, sogar ein Gefrierschrank. Auch Geschirr und Besteck ist mehr als ausreichend vorhanden.
Marian und John sind sehr nette und freundliche Gastgeber, und stehen mit Rat und Tat zur Seite, falls man Fragen hat oder doch einmal etwas fehlen sollte.
An- und Abreise verliefen ebenfalls völlig entspannt. Selbst wenn man erst spät am Abend ankommt ist das kein Problem, da Marian und John auch auf dem Hof wohnen und fast immer da sind.
Durch die zentrale Lage des Cottage auf der Insel sind alle Ausflugsziele gut mit dem Auto zu erreichen.
Vielen Dank noch einmal für die schöne Zeit und den entspannten Aufenthalt.
Wir checken bei unserem nächsten Irlandurlaub wieder bei Marian und John ein.

Natur und Ruhe mit historischem Charme
Sehr freundliches Gastgeberpaar; kleines altes Hinterhaus; kleine gemütlich ausgestattete Zimmer mit altem Mobilar (z.T. antik); tiefe Türen-Achtung mit dem Kopf! Wir haben einige Male "getroffen". Die Ausstattung von Küche und Bad sind ausreichend. Wenn man über diverse Abnutzungs- und Abwohnspuren in allen Bereichen hinweg sieht kann man sich wohlfühlen. Es war alles halt schon ein bißchen älter, aber zum Großteil sauber. Der Haushund ist anhänglich, läuft immer frei und jagt Kühe und Autos! Hübsches Anwesen mitten einer Weidelandschaft!
Wer das Einfache und Ruhe sucht ist gut aufgehoben. Zum Einkaufen hat man es mit dem Auto nicht weit( ca 3km) Da in der Mitte der Insel gelegen, bot unser Aufenthalt dort die Möglichkeit das zu erkunden und zu erleben was wir wollten. Der Besuch von einzelnen Städten, Wanderungen im Gebirge und Erkundungen der Umgebung waren unproblematisch möglich . Wir hatten 12 Tage sehr gutes Wetter und waren dadurch fast immer den ganzen Tag unterwegs.
