You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Host & Stay | Wood Street Cottage
Located in the popular market town of Barnard Castle, Wood Street Cottage is a welcoming and homely place to stay. Sleeping up to 4 guests, it’s the ideal place for a family staycation or a getaway with friends. You’ll have full access to the property during your stay which includes a living room, kitchen diner, two bedrooms, a family bathroom and a yard space with outdoor furniture.
The Space:
Wood Street Cottage is bright and comfortable. It’s the perfect place to unwind with your loved ones. Relax on the sofas watching Freeview on the flat screen TV or listening to CDs on a good quality audio system after an enjoyable excursion into the Dales or a trip to the castles (there are two within easy reach) or the Bowes Museum.
Fully equipped for self-catering stays, the kitchen has everything you could need to prepare meals easily. Also sharing this space is the dining area which includes a dining table and four chairs and a quality CD player. There’s extra lighting so the space can double up as your office for those days you need to log on for work.
Upstairs on the first floor, you’ll find two bedrooms and the family bathroom. The master bedroom has a zip-link king-sized bed and the second room is a double. Both bedrooms have comfortable mattresses and premium bed linens to ensure you have the best sleep possible. There are mirrors and hairdryers supplied for your convenience.
The family bathroom has a bath, walk-in shower, WC and basin.
Outside there is a small courtyard with outdoor seating. Start your day with a coffee in the sunshine at the front or enjoy a glass of something bubbly as the sun goes down at the rear.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
There is free on site parking for one vehicle on the driveway with on-street and inexpensive long-stay car park nearby.
The Neighborhood:
Wood Street Cottage is located in the historic market town of Barnard Castle. Featured within the Guardian’s ‘10 of the UK’s best small towns’, there is something for everyone here. If you love to shop, the town has many antique shops so treasure seekers will be in their element. There are still small independent stores which you wouldn’t see on the average high street. Take your pick of restaurants, cafes and pubs which serve lovely home-made food.
If you fancy some live entertainment whilst you’re away, check out The Witham to see which performances, films or exhibitions will be available when you visit.
Whilst there are lots of lovely walks to be done straight from the property, there is easy access to the 12th century castle with great views over the Tees Gorge. You can try to spot Richard III’s boar emblem carved above the window in the inner ward or explore the sensory garden. The ruins of Egglestone Abbey are also within walking distance. The Bowes Museum is just a 5-minute stroll away and it is a lovely place to picnic after you’ve viewed the art collection. If entertainment is your ‘thing’ check out thewitham.org.uk to see what performances or exhibitions will be showing when you visit. Watch out for the agricultural shows over the summer to get an insight into farming life in the North Pennines. The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty holds events at the Bowlees Visitor Centre (13 miles) to provide insights into the flora and fauna of the upper dale including rare blue gentians at Cow Green. The Grassholme Observatory at Mickleton (7miles) is a good place to explore the dark skies. And the list goes on…
Getting Around:
The closest mainline train station is at Darlington, offering easy access to Durham, Newcastle, Saltburn and York.
There are a number of bus routes throughout Barnard Castle. Hop on the Arriva X76 or X75 which travels to Darlington.
The best way to visit the Upper Dale is by car, or bike if you are travelling with them. You can use the space in the back yard to lock your bikes up when not is use.
Interaction with Guests:
We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
