The first room we was offered was very damp with the wallpaper all loose with damp very cold in there but after we complained was quite happy with the second room offered
Rooms are in very poor condition, lock on the door broken so anyone could enter and window latch broken so stuck open. Hotel generally in poor condition, apparently former migrant hotel. Staff however very friendly and very flexible.
Friendly & helpful staff. Central location but quiet at rear with garden & adjacent park.

For our 52nd Wedding Anniversary we booked a superior suite in the main building of the hotel for 2 nights. In a phone call before, we checked on lift access, needed due to mobility issues, and booked in the restaurant. On arrival we were told that the only access to the room booked was by 2 flights of stairs. We were then offered a suite in the extension building which had lift access. We were not told at that time but found there was refurbishment going on in that side of the hotel so we did have to put up with noise during daytime hours. First evening meal. Starters were okay. My husband had the Sunday roast of chicken, 2 roast potatoes, a small amount of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. He found the chicken dry. I had the lemony salmon which to our surprise came as a roast dinner, even with the Yorkshire pudding and gravy on it! After raising our concerns we were not charged for the mains. Day 2 and we stayed out all day returning about 4pm to find workmen moving furniture from other rooms on our floor down the small lift. There was mess in the lift and in the corridor. Noise continued until 5pm. For our day 2 meal we found the restaurant closed and only the sports bar open. Again we had been given no notice of this. This was the day of our anniversary so not the night we were expecting. Overall the few days were ruined as the hotel did not live up to our expectations and we were not told of the renovations being carried out and what it would entail.
Excellent value and sweet, friendly staff. Rooms fairly basic but comfy - it's a shame they don't reflect the history and aesthetics of the building more, but I imagine that would bump up the price considerably.
The room was nothing like advertised. Needs a lot of work doing to it. Very dated. The shower head was broken so sprayed everywhere. Tiles were cracked by the shower. Extractor fan rusty and not working. Brown stains at the bottom of the toilet. Mattress too small for frame and duvet too small for cover. Stairs leading to room was covered in silver duct tape as carpet was split. People in and out of doors near our room kept us awake at night. Window warped so couldn’t shut it properly. Coffee at breakfast was a glorified flask. The gluten free section-which was good to see-had warm almond milk etc. I like cold milk on my cereal!
We think that the best rooms are saved for those that book direct not via a search engine like Expedia!
We think the nice rooms are kept
I did not have breakfast although i had booked this for my 3 night stay. But as the room offered was so disgusting and was a health and safety hazard which i have photographs of. I am reporting the hotel to environmental department at Banbury council. I have asked and am awaiting a full refund. I have stayed in Whatley Hall many times before years ago, but never will i recommend it again
Good service. Clean room on arrival but no effort to clean during stay. Just clean towels left. Dinner good but limited menu. Breakfast excellent. Lots of choice and good quality. Didnt like coffee in flask. It became bitter over time.
On arrival there was a beautiful birthday cake for my partner
The reception staff were most helpful in re-arranging room allocation to accommodate my walking difficulties.
It was good to see that the building is receiving major renovations and re-decoration. Breakfasts were excellent and staff friendly and helpful.

Coffee quality in room and at breakfast. Bread quality poor, no choice of eggs.
Spider web in bedside lamp. Shower rail loose. As we only stayed1 night, did not bring our toiletries- only Shower wash available.
Sad to see poor bathrooms in a stunning looking property - mould cracked tiles and dirty at bottom of toilet.
Sad also that no fresh pastries one basket only and 2 more hours of service, staff shrugged shoulders and said that’s it.
Unfortunate stay. Shane as reception and gardens beautiful.
The room was very dingy, carpets old and tattered, bathroom stained. The room smelled badly of smoke and marijuana. Staff said there were no other rooms to offer. This hotel is in desperate need of cleaning and renovation. They didn't replenish many breakfast items including the fruit and the pastries, and I did not care for the orange juice. Parking was limited in their car park.
We payed for the premium room and this is what we got given, the rooms were nothing like the pictures! The cleanliness of the room was really poor and the bed was so uncomfortably
