Tired old property unfortunately. Big plus was parking, breakfast was too late for us. Noisy location.
The only problem was the cooked breakfast. The eggs were watery, and the bacon was hard, I don't mean crisp it was like leather.
The accomodation, the staff and the hotel was very good.

Whately Hall hotel is excellent but Banbury is dirt. we won't come back to a town where the Coucil does not have any care/money for cleaning the surroundings.
The hotel looks amazing but when we got to the room it was very tierd. The bathroom had mould on the silicone around the bath. The shower barely worked and one of the levers wasn't even fitted.
Rooms very tired, but during our stay was constant loud construction work.
Hotel has said they will refund our stay but still disappointed weekend did not go to plan
Such a beautiful old hotel. Full of character, little gem! Staff lovely, nice brekkie. Lovely view of St Mary’s Church from our room. Absolute bargain, will definitely be back

Good room rate, Nice garden.
All a bit old and in need of tlc. Ill fitting windows. Poorly fitted curtains. Very hot room!
Easy parking and checking in. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable and the shower was large and modern. The staff that we had dealings with in the bar/restaurant and on reception were helpful, polite, pleasant and engaging. A good experience.

Such a beautiful old building. Sadly we were in the aging badly 70s wing. Duct taped carpets and paint patches set the tone as we intrepidly made our way to our ‘suite’ a sofa so old I could still make out the bum prints of the last guests & a bed which was two singles pushed together, hard and slipping so badly I dreamt I was in a plane crash. A stray hair on the toilet seat & blood on the sheets finished the picture. Service lacked enthusiasm or much interest. Turning a beautiful old building bar into a sports bar with hard low back seating & the world’s biggest TV didn’t resonate with the heritage of the building. A real shame as I’ve stayed in some lovely Mercure hotels before. Locals advised us when we found a bar open after 11.00 (not that the hotel offered us any advice) that we’d be best to stay at the three pigeons next time. A shame as visiting family

Geat location but in need of serious updating
The hotel is very run down and in need of renovation. Having said that, the staff were friendly and the food was good. Whilst the rooom had peeling paint and stained carpet, the bed was comfortable and the bedding clean and crisp. Given what I paid for my 2 nights, I can't complain and you do get what you pay for. The location is great and there is plenty of free hotel parking. If you want a posh hotel, don't go there, but if you want a cheap hotel in a central location that competes with a Travel Lodge, then I would choose here every time.

Have stayed here before, very recently. Then, rooms had recently been refurbished and were very good. This time, was put in the 1970s wing. The room was tired, the window had no handle (so couldn’t be closed) and the shower simply didn’t work in the morning. Was moved to a different room after explaining, and this too was very tired and the shower was poor. The settee was fit for the skip. No bedside light. Was really disappointed, after previous good experiences. Not sure I’ll use again in future.
Great location, close to all amenities. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.
Many other interesting places only a small drive away.
Hotel itself is nearly 400 years old, the whole building has plenty of interesting features.
Room was large, clean and very comfortable overlookingthe lovely gardens. Tea, coffe and biscuits were provided.
The hotel is old and beautifully maintained, our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable, the service from the bar very freindly as was all the staff we spoke too

Shower was cold in the morning, no hot water and no apology from reception just a 'thank you for letting us know'. Pretty poor response.
