Holidays in Pasu

When chucking a sickie becomes way too easy, it's time to abandon the corporate cubicle and say hello to Pasu!

The country's capital, Islamabad, is located about 350 kilometres to the southwest of Pasu.

We suggest getting in the car and finding your way to Karimabad. It's approximately 30 kilometres to the southwest and the home of Sacred Rocks at Hunza and Ganish Village.

Going to Gilgit? This place is only 80 kilometres to the southwest. If you're staying here a while, make sure you check out City Park, the Karakoram International University and Gohar Aman's Tower. Also consider swinging by British Cemetery and Uprising Memorial.

If you think it's time to rediscover your inner adventurer, sign yourself up for some rock climbing. That said, there aren't many better ways to see the wonders of the local area than with a bit of mountain climbing.

Our itineraries are often dependent on the weather, but luckily that isn't the case with everything. Rain or shine, see the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and craft workshops any time you like.

Do you feel like you need to spend the day outdoors? Consider planning a trip to one of the surrounding area's open-air markets.

If you're looking to learn more about the region's history, look around some ruins, traditional villages, old towns, fortresses and archeological sites. Grab your guidebook, do a little research and explore the most interesting of them.

Learn a little about the local belief systems and perhaps reconnect with your spiritual side by visiting one of Pasu's mosques.

Whether you prefer the thrill of Michelin stars or chowing down on a simple street snack, tasting the local food and drink is maybe the best thing about travel. So why not tingle your taste buds by trying some of the area's appetising offerings?

Curious about some of the surprises that'll wind up on your plate? There's every chance they'll include lentils, pulses or perhaps even both.

Ask one of the locals for their food recommendations and naan (flour dough) will probably be the first thing they mention. Korma (meat) is another of the area's signature dishes you might like to sample.

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and we don't think that's a coincidence. There's no more delightful way to wave goodbye to your worries than with gulab jamun (deep-fried dough in sugar syrup), a treat that's often found on dinner tables here.

What better way to get to know a place than by joining in on a day of national celebration? There'll be plenty of festivities organised for Republic Day on the 23rd of March.

It might be time to leave and head home, but it doesn't have to be forever. Why not save your spare Pakistani rupees for another getaway to this magnificent region?

If you're travelling by plane, you'll most likely be using Benazir Bhutto International Airport (ISB). It's 360 kilometres to the southwest. Pack up your suitcase, plan a route and set an alarm!
