Holidays in Kumyali

Dying to get away from it all? Can't stop stalking hashtags like #BeautifulDestinations? Then base yourself in Kumyali and take a trip through the seriously beautiful beaches and mountains of Cyprus.

Nicosia, 75 kilometres to the southwest, and Paphos, situated 170 kilometres southwest, are two outstanding cities that are a few hours' drive from Kumyali.

While away a day looking out at the horizon at Finikoudes Beach or Nissi Beach.

Spend a day relaxing at Fig Tree Bay. It sits just 45 kilometres away from Kumyali. Fill your lungs with the fresh air and take a few moments to simply slow down.

After some additional close-by places? Buyukkonuk is only 12 kilometres to the west, so get in the car and start exploring! Alternatively, Yeni Erenkoy, 13 kilometres northeast of Kumyali, is also worth a day trip.

Whether it's for shopping or to see the sights, visitors often make the trip out to Yenişehir, 75 kilometres to the west. The Cyprus Museum, St. Paul's Cathedral and the University of Cyprus are all nearby. That said, make sure you don't miss out on the Frederick University and the Nicosia Municipal Theater either.

From scuba diving to swimming, there's a range of ways to get out on the water in Cyprus. Just don't forget to pack your sunscreen!

If you find yourself caught in some bad weather, take cover in one of the region's art museums.

Rejuvenate your mind at some fun-filled outdoor attractions. The surrounding area offers a nice array of open-air museums.

Take a journey back in time with an outing to the local ruins, old towns and archeological sites. When it comes to understanding the historical significance of these structures, a knowledgeable tour guide can make all the difference.

Familiarise yourself with the area's spiritual beliefs and traditions by organising a visit to its churches and monasteries. Take some time out for your own quiet contemplation or simply observe the locals in prayer.

Would you like to chomp, chew, nibble, gnaw and gulp your way across Cyprus? A world of tantalising flavours awaits you here, so slip into your stretchiest slacks and bon appétit!

Once you stop and thumb through a restaurant menu, you'll soon realise that fish and fresh vegetables are two ingredients commonly used in local cooking.

There's always a local recipe or two that you need to cross of the list, and when you're in Kumyali, yemista (stuffed peppers) is certainly one of them. Kleftiko (goat or lamb baked in foil) is another iconic dish that's an essential experience for food fans.

Do you still have a little room left after the main course? Then put in your order for pastish (cookie), a delicious dessert.

Travelling is more than just seeing the attractions and trying the local dishes. It's also about the connections you make with the people and their culture. Make the most of your Cyprus getaway by memorising a few expressions in the local language. 'Me léne ...' can be very handy. It translates to 'my name is..'. One more to commit to memory is 'Apó pu íse?', which means 'where are you from?'.

Pencil the 1st of October in your calendar. In Kumyali this means just one thing — Independence Day. A notable day of festivities, this is a great time of year to head to the country.

When it's time to say "Ta léme argótera" to Kumyali, don't worry — you can always come back!

Situated 75 kilometres to the southwest is Larnaca International Airport (LCA), the closest terminal. Ensure you give yourself plenty of time to find it.
