    Pocket Guide: Geraldton

Want to take a break in a beautiful coastal city with year-round sunshine and a comfortable climate? When you stay in one of our Geraldton hotels, you'll also enjoy fabulous views of the Coral Coast and learn about the fascinating heritage of this, the biggest city in Western Australia's mid-west region.

    History

Geraldton was once an abandoned outpost of the Swan River colony but was later reinhabited, becoming the thriving port city that it is today. To learn more about the city's history, put on some walking shoes and follow one of the Geraldton Heritage Trails. Along the way, you'll discover colonial buildings, war memorials and restored cottages, as well as a few museums.

    Things to Do

As soon as you arrive, take a photo next to the iconic yellow submarine and then check out Coronation Beach, which is world-renowned for its fantastic wind surfing conditions. You can also go kite surfing, scuba diving and fishing here but if surfing is more your style, be sure to hit up Flat Rocks, which has some great swell.

Art critics can hot foot it to the State Heritage listed Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, which is home to some highly acclaimed artworks and hosts about 25 different exhibitions each year. Afterwards, check out the incredible detail in the Batavia Longboat Replica, which is in the Batavia Coast Marina, just in front of the Western Australian Museum Geraldton.

    Dining

One thing's for sure: you won't go hungry in Geraldton! The city is home to a number of award-winning restaurants, as well as some fantastic cafes and fish and chip shops. Make sure that you have at least one plate of seafood while you're here - crayfish rock lobster is the city's specialty, and it's fresher than fresh!
