Holidays in Dunboyne

Yep. Wanderlust — it gets right into your soul. So, isn't it high time you booked your next adventure? Dunboyne awaits!

Ireland's capital city, Dublin, lies 16 kilometres to the southeast of Dunboyne.

Dunshaughlin lies 11 kilometres to the northwest. A trip out here is made worthwhile by Hill of Tara alone.

Sitting 95 kilometres to the northeast, Newcastle Beach is a terrific spot to spend time unwinding by the ocean. Sandymount Beach also offers visitors some pleasant views. You'll find this enticing stretch of coastline 20 kilometres to the northeast.

You won't need to be stuck inside a car all day to experience some nature. Just 30 kilometres out of Dunboyne, Bru na Boinne Visitor Centre is a wonderful place to kick back and unwind. More delightful surrounds await at Powerscourt Waterfall, 35 kilometres away.

Corkagh Park is an excellent spot for a delicious picnic lunch and a walk on a fine day. Don't forget to bring your camera!

What could be more exciting than chanting until your voice is hoarse at a rugby union match? Watch the Ireland national rugby union team battle for glory at Aviva Stadium, located in Dublin, 19 kilometres away. Or, experience the rousing atmosphere of a live home game featuring the Republic of Ireland national football team.

If you're considering venturing outwards, go 3 kilometres north to Black Bull. This is where you'll come across National Aquatic Centre and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. We also recommend trying out Leixlip, 6 kilometres to the south, for Castletown House and the Hermitage Golf Club.

Located 9 kilometres to the southwest, Maynooth is a destination chock-full with activities. The St. Patrick's College, Maynooth Castle and the Maynooth National Science Museum are all quite close. That said, the Carton House Golf Club and Rye River may be more your style.

Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while visiting Meath. Give your taste buds a little attention as well by digging into the local food and drink. After all, you haven't truly experienced a place until you've tasted its flavours.

Looking for a quick introduction to the local fare? We recommend you get a taste for mutton and pork, two common ingredients which go into dishes here.

You don't need to agonise over the restaurant menu when you're in Dunboyne. Get stuck right in and sink your teeth into some of the regional specialties, such as Irish stew (lamb or mutton with potato, onion and parsley) and bacon and cabbage (pork back boiled with cabbage and potato).

You could be eating yourself into elastic-waisted trousers, but sweet seedcake loaf is worth it. This popular dessert will put your taste buds into overdrive with just a glance.

Life's not all beer and skittles, but there's certainly nothing wrong with savouring a cold one once in a while. While you're here, make sure it's Murphy’s Irish Stout.

Don't forget to pencil the 17th of March in your diary. To the locals, this means just one thing — Saint Patrick's Day. A prominent day of festivities, this is a marvellous time of year to travel to the country.

When it comes time to say goodbye, don't leave your last European euros clanking around in your pocket. Why not buy some souvenirs as a reminder of this beautiful region?

When you're set to fly home, give yourself plenty of time to get to Dublin Airport (DUB). Situated 15 kilometres to the east from Dunboyne, this is the nearest terminal.
